Lavigne was also nominated for best new artist. It is particularly difficult to predict who the winner will be in that category, with talented newcomers such as Ashanti, John Mayer, Michelle Branch, and Norah Jones all vying for the same award.
Lavigne told us that it was kind of funny to be standing right next to some of her competition in the best new artist category when the nominees were announced. "I was with Ashanti and John Mayer," Lavigne said. "All three of us were together when we found that out, so it was funny. But I thought they were really cool. Ashanti is, like, really nice, and he was really cool, too."
The 45th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York City on February 23.
