  • Gary Allan (Photo: Sara Kauss)For some, the number 13 is unlucky. But for Gary Allan, at least, 13—as in the year 2013—has been nothing short of charmed. It’s been nearly three years since Allan released his last album, and clearly music fans were ready for a new one from him. His latest work, Set You Free, debuted at the top of both the country albums chart and the all-genre Billboard 200 and has been receiving glowing praise from critics.

Allan stopped by Ram Country on Yahoo! Music recently to give us a taste of his stellar new material, as well as sit down and chat about what he's been up to in preparation for this new endeavor.

The new record has a distinctly sunnier tone than his last set—2010’s critically acclaimed but cathartic Get Off On The Pain. Allan—who weathered one of most painful experiences imaginable, the suicide of his wife in 2004--explains that it was a bit of a challenge to create a more optimistic collection.

  • Faith Hill (Photo: Jon Kopaloff)Faith Hill may be all of 45 years old, but the blond beauty is making waves for something usually reserved for teenagers—namely, braces on her teeth! After proudly flashing her bracketed smile at the Grammys, searches online rocketed for “Faith Hill braces.”

Turns out Hill’s had the braces for some time. They were in full evidence at November’s Country Music Association Awards, and she told reporters she’d had them for about four months at that point. The singer had worn braces as a kid, but, as she explained to radio station KNIX, “"I forgot to wear my retainer--kids, wear your retainer!”

Hill’s cheerfully matter-of-fact attitude about fixing her shifted teeth—and, probably as well, the resulting implication that you’re never too old for self-improvement--charmed many out there. The country superstar is happy she was able to make such a positive statement.

“I've seen your posts and the news coverage on my braces....woah!!” she tweeted on Tuesday, adding, “Wear your braces proudly. Thanks everyone for all of the kind words!”

  • Josh Groban has yet to score a top 40 hit on the Hot 100, but that hasn’t held him back in album sales. This week, he lands his third #1 album on The Billboard 200 with All That Echoes. He’s only the second solo artist in chart history to land three or more #1 albums before landing a top 40 single. He follows Garth Brooks, who had amassed seven #1 albums before he finally cracked the top 40 in 1999 with “Lost In You.” (The artist billing, you may remember, was Garth Brooks as Chris Gaines.)

Two groups—both hard rock bands—have, like Groban, amassed three or more #1 albums without yet scoring a top 40 hit. Disturbed has amassed four #1 albums. Godsmack has had three.

  • Eric Church (Photo: Lester Cohen)The nominations for the 48th annual Academy of Country Music Awards have been announced, and Eric Church is 2013’s lead nominee, with seven nods to his name—including the prestigious album of the year category for his platinum-selling Chief.

Church is also up for male vocalist, single, song (as both writer and performer), video of the year, and vocal event of the year.

He didn’t make the top category of entertainer of the year, however. Competing for the night’s ultimate honor are Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Taylor Swift, and—interestingly—Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert, who will compete against each other as spouses.

  • Lady Gaga (Photo: Vathiswa Ruselo)Calling all Little Monsters: Brace yourself, because Lady Gaga has some disappointing news to share. The singer announced Tuesday she must put a temporary halt on her Born This Way Ball due to an injury that's forcing her off stage for a few dates.

Gaga, of all stars, knows how devoted her fans are--and how devoted she is to them--so her announcement on Twitter was gravely worded. "I hardly know what to say," she tweeted, then explained her full situation.

"I've been hiding a show injury and chronic pain for sometime now, over the past month it has worsened. I've been praying it would heal," she noted. "I hid it from my staff, I didn't want to disappoint my amazing fans. However after last nights performance I could not walk and still can't."

Bryan Norwood, the police chief responsible for overseeing Chris Brown’s community service in Richmond, Va., resigned Tuesday, according to a statement released by the Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones.

[Related: Chris Brown and Rihanna make cozy comeback at the Grammys, fans divided]

“As of today, I have accepted the resignation of Bryan Norwood from his post as chief of police for the city of Richmond,” Mayor Jones said in a statement. “I am very thankful for the more than four years of dedicated service he has offered to our city and for the leadership that he has brought to the Richmond Police Department.”

On Feb. 5, the Grammy award winning artist was accused of submitting fraudulent documentation regarding the completion of his community service. As part of his 2009 sentence for his felony assault on his girlfriend Rihanna, Brown was put on probation for five years and ordered to complete 180 days of community labor in Virginia.

  • Justin Bieber (Photo: Theo Wargo)If you haven't heard by now: Justin Bieber is upset that he was shut out of the 2013 Grammys. And the superstar isn’t taking kindly to those who suggest he really doesn’t have much to complain about.

When Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney—whose band scooped up four Grammy Awards on Sunday—told TMZ that Bieber should be happy because “The Grammys are for music, not money…he’s making a lot of money,” the Biebs responded swiftly on Twitter.

“The black keys drummer should be slapped around,” he tweeted.

Bieber softened his statement somewhat by adding “haha” at the end, but…well, we all know how these sorts of social media wars go.

Fan response was swift, with the expected plentiful support from Beliebers—although many took Bieber to task for being rude and promoting violence.

Patrick Carney (Photo: Jason LaVeris)For his part, Carney responded to Bieber’s tweet with a frowning emoticon, following it with a string of retweets from angry Bieber fans. Sentiments ranged from mere disapproval (“I no longer like you nor do I like your band”) to actual rage (“HE NEEDS A PUNCH IN THE FACE WITH A BRICK,” read one).

  • Taylor Swift may have insinuated during her biting Grammys performance Sunday that she is “never ever getting back together” with her ex, One Direction’s Harry Styles. That doesn’t mean she’s forgotten him, however. Quite the contrary: She’s even dressing like him now.

Swift chose an outfit for the filming of her newest video that mirrors her ex’s fashion sense almost exactly. She nailed every detail of Style’s signature casual look: baggy sweater, tight black jeans, ankle boots….and, of course, the knit beanie on top to cover those fabulous locks. Compare for yourselves!

  • Grammy award winner Beyoncé offers more insight into ending her business relationship with her father, false rumors about using a surrogate mother, and love for her husband, Jay Z, in her HBO documentary, Life Is But A Dream, that airs Saturday at 9 p.m.

Below are five revelations from the film:

    1. Why did she drop her father as her manager?

Beyoncé’s father Matthew Knowles was relieved of managing her career in 2011. The Destiny’s Child singer said it was a tough but necessary decision. “I think one of the biggest reasons I decided it was time for me to manage myself because at some point you need your support system and you need your family,” she says in Life Is But A Dream. “When you’re trying to have an everyday conversation with your family you have to talk about scheduling and you have to talk about your album and performing and touring. It’s just too stressful and it really affects your relationship,” she says. Beyoncé adds the decision to sever her business ties with her father, who began preparing her for super stardom when she was a child, wasn’t easy. “It was hard,” she offers. “I had to sacrifice my relationship with my dad. It was stressful, sad, difficult time, but I had to let go.”
