  • The press release we just received announcing Jack White and his wife of six years, model/musician Karen Elson, are getting divorced is so strange, we are going to run it here so you can experience the confusion of reading it for yourself. Note: It came with the attached "Divorce Party Invitation." As music writer Andy Downing wondered on Twitter, how long before Jack and Karen pretend to be siblings and start a band?

    To whom it may concern:

karen elson and jack white announce today that they are getting divorced.

"we remain dear and trusted friends and co-parents to our wonderful children Scarlett and Henry Lee.

We feel so fortunate for the time we have shared and the time we will continue to spend both separately and together watching our children grow.

In honor of that time shared, we are throwing a divorce party. an evening together in Nashville to re-affirm our friendship and celebrate the past and future with close friends and family."

    with love

    Karen Elson and Jack White

  • Some Rock Hall of Famers pen lyrics with crayons, and others with chalk. Back in February, we learned that Tom Waits was working on his first new album since 2004's Real Gone. Now we have evidence of Waits' new music: On the singer's official site, Waits posted a "peek at a lyric from new Tom Waits' album." The three lines unveiled: "No good you say? Well, that's good enough for me. You're the same kind of bad as me." Rhyming "me" with "me," daring stuff.

You can actually hear Waits' battered, whiskey-soaked voice reciting those lines in your head as you read it. It's simple, no hefty metaphors to untwine, but these three lines set the framework for what appears to be the tale of another street urchin love affair that Waits has been telling for four decades. No word yet when Waits' new album is coming out, but if he's writing all his lyrics in chalk, it'll probably take awhile.

  • As far as opening lines go, the Edge out-funnied Bono last night at a press event before a preview performance of their beleaguered Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark musical in New York. Bono kicked off with, "I'm the Green Goblin." The Edge went for the more self-effacing, "I know what you are all thinking: They're much taller in real life." Advantage: Edge.

Half of U2 were in the house to talk up the soundtrack to Spider-Man, which is due June 14th -- the same day Spidey finally, officially opens (preview performances began in November 2010; some Spider-Men were sacrificed during the show's difficult journey). The Edge called the 14 songs from the show "some of the best we've ever written" and Bono added, "U2's best work has always been when we didn't know what we're doing," saying they were thrilled to escape "an 'A B A B, chorus, get the f--- out of here' kind of structure." Riiight. But have you two listened to The Joshua Tree lately? That's some good stuff.

  • 'Iron Man 3' races past $1 billion dollar mark on monster foreign take

By Todd Cunningham LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - "Iron Man 3" was soaring past $1 billion at the worldwide box office Thursday, in a display of world domination that would make one of Marvel's super villains proud. The box-office bounty - roughly $700 million from abroad and $300 million domestically - is a major triumph for Disney, which bet big on comic book superheroes when it bought Marvel Studios for $4 billion in 2009. And its decision to bring aboard a Chinese partner for "Iron Man 3" and focus the Disney marketing machine on the booming foreign market looks pretty good right now, too. ...
