  • How are ukuleles awesome? Eddie Vedder counts the ways in a new interview about his solo album Ukulele Songs posted on NPR's website:

    The uke changed his life!:
"A lot's different since I first picked up this instrument; my life is quite different than I could have imagined."

At one point, it was his Wilson:
"If it weren't for the ukulele I would have been by myself."

    It has political power:
    "It's an activist instrument."

It's the perfect way to encourage a sing-along:
"It's such a small instrument. People are like, 'Let's help it out!' "

It helped his songs sound less depressing:
"It is a happy sound, and by using it to process some emotions that were less than joyful, it somehow balanced it out to where it didn't sound like suicide music."

It'll cure the nation's obesity problem! (But not its depression problem):
"I know for the vinyl version of the record there's going to be a real book included, with the music and the notation and whatever bizarre chords I've come up with. ... I'm just

  • There's the adage "Prison changes a man," and apparently that quote applies to Lil Wayne. Weezy went behind bars as the biggest rapper on the planet and came out as John Mayer. The rapper, whose first post-Rikers Island album Tha Carter IV is due out June 21st, released the latest single off TC4 today, and it is horrible. We try to be somewhat objective when listening to music, but we could barely make it through one sitting of "How to Love." Picture Weezy pretending to be Drake while singing a Jack Johnson song. That sums it up:

Wayne's last single, the Rick Ross rip-off "If I Die Today," was disappointing, but that track is "Gin & Juice" compared to "How to Love." If this is Lil Wayne's attempt to intentionally submarine a prestigious hip-hop career, then well done. This actually makes us pine for the days of his nu-metal Rebirth, and that album bordered on terrible. Maybe Wayne has been hanging out with U2 too much.

Wayne's Young Money crew has done well with this type of smooth

  • If you hadn't figured it out already, Lady Gaga really wants to sell over a million copies of Born This Way in the album's debut week. At the same time, Amazon is frantically trying to ensure the sales chasm between their digital music service and Apple's dominant iTunes doesn't grow any larger. This perfect storm of motivation has fueled Amazon's decision to offer digital copies of Born This Way for 99 cents, or the cost of a new Melty Beefy Burrito at Taco Bell, on its release date of May 23rd.

However, Amazon's service was so hammered by eager Little Monsters on Monday that many fans had difficulties downloading the album, and Amazon's plan was undercut by an infuriating user experience. So, take two: "We're doing it again and this time we're ready. Get @ladygaga's Born This Way album for $0.99 today," Amazon's Twitter announced this morning.

iTunes, meanwhile, is selling the regular version of BTW for $11.99 and the deluxe version, which currently tops their bestselling albums
