  • Note to Haus of Gaga employees working on the packaging of Lady Gaga's May 23rd disc Born This Way: The Lady does not like the word "deluxe."

"I don't want the word 'deluxe' on the album," she tells a colleague in footage captured for the 42nd installment of behind-the-scenes video series GagaVision. "I hate that word," she adds, punctuating her vile contempt for the deplorable term by grasping her face and looking sad. "It infers the other one's of less value," her minion agrees. Yes, it does -- because it is. A non-deluxe album costs less and includes fewer bonus features. The two debate whether to change the color scheme on the more fancy version or use a different image altogether. Lady Gaga responds to this toughie by putting a blanket over her head.

We're just five days away from the arrival of the singer's second Born This Way single, "Judas," and in a chyron she tells us, "I graphic-designed the 'Judas' single cover myself, in Word, and photographed the image with my

  • The Internet continues to provide hip-hop fans with the gift of unearthed Wu-Tang Clan videos. Last time, it was the Wu's "too ill for TV" commercial for Super Game Boy, and now Ego Trip NYC (via Nah Right) has dug up this gem: a 1991 public access show called Rhythm & Soul featuring guests GZA, RZA, and Ol' Dirty Bastard. This lofi chat predates the formation of the Wu-Tang Clan itself as, back then, GZA was "The Genius," RZA was "Prince Rakim," and a slightly saner ODB was "Ason Unique." The fourth guy in the blue-and-yellow gear has not yet been identified.

Even though this clip came two years before the 36 Chambers was entered, it's still pretty incredible. The Genius was promoting his 1991 solo album Words From the Genius, ODB was his dancer/beatboxer, and the pair team up for a great a cappella at the tail end of the chat. We also hear firsthand what rappers inspired this nascent Wu collective: Melle Mel, Spoonie Gee, Cold Crush Brothers, Kool Moe Dee, Treacherous Three, and

  • Today brought word that the skilled surgeons in Britney Spears' crisis lab managed to stitch the Femme Fatale tour back together again. After Enrique Iglesias ditched the trek mere hours after it was announced in what we can only presume was a very sexy panic attack, Nicki Minaj emerged as the most likely replacement, and Spears confirmed Minaj's gig today via flirty tweet -- her new preferred means of communication.

But Minaj isn't the only new addition to the 26-date tour. As Spears said in an only slightly less flirty statement, "I'm thrilled to have the hot Nicki Minaj join me and Jessie and the Toy Boys and Nervo will get everyone on the dance floor. Can't wait to take the Femme Fatales on the road."

So who are Jessie and the Toy Boys and Nervo? We'll tell you!

Jessie Malakouti is an California-born singer/songwriter who fronted a band called Shut Up Stella, headed off to the U.K. looking for a new musical direction, and returned an electro-pop artist with Eminem-approved rapper

  • Pink Floyd's eccentric lead singer Syd Barrett only recorded one album with the legendary band and two solo LPs before fleeing the spotlight for a reclusive life, trading in his guitar for a paintbrush. To mark what would have been Barrett's 65th birthday, and the fifth anniversary of his death, London's Idea Generation Gallery hosted an exhibit of Barrett's letters and artwork. One painting, a self-portrait Syd made around 1961, was stolen from the gallery's walls the day before the exhibit was to close on April 10th. What happened next is as strange as any of Barrett's quirky lyrics on The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. (Click here for The Amp's introduction to Syd Barrett.)

The painting's owner, Syd's ex-girlfriend Libby Gausden, lobbied to the press for the safe return of the self-portrait, adding that it had " huge personal value" to her. The plea worked as, according to the Wire, just three days after the Idea Generation Gallery offered a £2,000 reward for the safe return of the

  • Just what the near-bankrupt State of California needed, another tax-dollar-guzzling Phil Spector trial! It took two lengthy murder trials totaling roughly 13 months in court to find the famed music producer guilty in the 2003 death of actress Lana Clarkson. The second trial concluded in May 2009 with Spector's second-degree murder conviction and a sentence of 19 years to life in prison. Now almost two years later, Spector's defense team believes they've discovered enough prosecutor and judge "errors" during the second trial to force a third.

A panel of three judges will hear the Spector team's appeal for a new trial today. The crux of Spector's appeal centers on five of the prosecution's witnesses, all women who testified that Spector had previously threatened them with a gun, NPR reports. Spector's lawyers claimed that the judge should have disallowed those witnesses from taking the stand, but prosecutors argued that the women's testimony was "highly relevant."

    If this seems like a

Jay-Z once rapped, "I'm not a businessman, I'm a business, man." He is proudly, unquestionably both. In the past six months he's launched enterprises as varied as a Brooklyn chicken-wing joint and a new lifestyle website called Life + Times. Guess which one his good friend Gwyneth Paltrow wanted to interview him about?

In a bout of uncomfortably icky cross-promotion, Paltrow's GOOP newsletter ran a Q&A with Jay today and Life + Times published an interview with Paltrow titled -- feel free to heave a preemptive sigh now -- "Straight Outta Compton?" (insert second, more exasperated sigh here). Why would Jay reference N.W.A's iconic meditation on downtrodden 'hood life in relation to an actress who grew up in extreme wealth? Because after boys from fancy New York prep school Collegiate introduced Paltrow to hip-hop when she was 16, she went to L.A. for a summer and "discovered N.W.A, which became my obsession. I was fascinated by lyrics as rhythm and how Dre had a such different cadence

  • As promised, My Morning Jacket wrapped up six weeks of free downloads today by premiering the title track from their upcoming album Circuital. We're reluctant to call "Circuital" the first single since the track clocks in at a whopping seven minutes and 16 seconds, but the long musical landscape sets the tone for what fans can expect when the rest of the band's sixth album arrives May 31st.

Like Radiohead's "Paranoid Android" and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" before it, "Circuital" is a multi-suite song that constantly evolves. One of our biggest gripes about MMJ's last album Evil Urges was that it was too varied, that the group was too busy emulating Prince, roots rockers, and AM Gold rather than being the band that captivated us during their legendary Bonnaroo late night shows. So it's with some relief we can report that "Circuital" sounds similar to Z, MMJ's best album,  especially in the first and last movements. In between, there's a heavy Fleet Foxes influence, but there's nothing
