  • In the past five days, Missy Elliott, Lil' Kim, and Foxy Brown have all put out new songs and Lauryn Hill hit the half-way point of her unexpected (and unexplained) tour. That means A) Nicki Minaj has 'em running scared, B) Nicki Minaj has 'em inspired, C) Nicki Minaj beef has business booming, or D) Lady rappers are forming like Voltron and a ferocious revolution is on the way.

Minaj's debut album "Pink Friday" has already shipped platinum and climbed to Number Two on the Billboard Top 200 (The Amp even thinks she has a shot at the top spot next week). While it's not the masterpiece many of us were hoping for based on the strength of her mixtapes and cameos (see a fab list of them here), it was heralded as the Great Return of the Female MC. That got some people thinking positive thoughts (like Missy, who endorsed Minaj and said she "makes rapping fun again"), and some people thinking negative thoughts -- like Lil' Kim who went on a beefy rampage in an attempt to get some Twitter

  • Etta James, the Grammy-winning singer of the timeless classic "At Last," has been diagnosed with dementia and leukemia, the BBC reports. The 72-year-old James began suffering from major health problems (including a blood infection) in January 2010 and then battled an addiction to painkillers. Sadly, as we've seen in the struggle over the Michael Jackson estate, James' family is at odds over who should manage the singer's money now that her mental condition has left her unable to eat, dress, or sign documents on her own.

James left her power of attorney to her two sons Donto James and Sametto James in February 2008, but James' husband Artis Mills has filed papers in court that seek control of her finances. Hopefully, the ensuing battle over James' estate doesn't eclipse James' legacy itself, which boasts pretty much every accolade an artist can hope to achieve in the music industry: multiple Grammy wins including a Lifetime Achievement Award, induction in both the Rock and Roll and

  • Gucci Mane's possible insanity and probable incarceration are no laughing matters. The giant, ridiculous tattoo of a three-scoop ice cream cone the rapper got inked on his right cheek the other day, however, is hilarious. While the rest of the world puzzled over the tat yesterday and came up with lists of other wildly tattooed MC mugs, Vibe stole the show by tracking down the dude who laid this monstrosity on Mane's face.

We suspect Shane Willoughby (pictured above with Gucci in the Bret Michaels bandana) spoke to the magazine to let the world know that you can come to Atlanta's Tenth Street Tattoo parlor and not leave with a hideous permanent mark on your face. "I don't think I'll ever do [that] again... no matter how successful [the celebrity]," he said. "I was [hesitant] like 'Are you sure you want to put that much in that area?' He came straight to the counter and that's where he pointed." The rapper insinuated he didn't have room anywhere else on his body for the new artwork --

  • Deadheads who need a distraction between Furthur tours, take notice: The Grateful Dead are letting an independent video game company develop a line of time-wasters based on the stories and characters in the Dead's music, the group's iconic psychedelic imagery, and the members of the Dead themselves. North Carolina developers Common Sense can use anything from the Dead's discography and videography to create the games, which will aim for the Facebook/mobile apps market currently dominated by "Farmville" and "Angry Birds."

"Think of the song 'Samson and Delilah'," Common Sense founder Adam Blumenthal told the Wall Street Journal. "Maybe we can make that into an 'Angry Birds' kind of game?" Instead of hurling birds, maybe you'd load up a slingshot with "Dark Stars," "China Cat Sunflowers," or even Bob Weir himself as you try to topple "Terrapin Station."

Old school Deadheads, like most baby boomers, don't really play video games, so these titles will instead aim to connect with younger

  • Trish Keenan, the ethereal singer for U.K. electro band Broadcast, died this morning from pneumonia, a complication she suffered after contracting the H1N1 swine flu following a recent trip to Australia. Her manager confirmed the sad news for Spinner, and a statement on the Warp Records website reads, "This is an untimely tragic loss and we will miss Trish dearly -- a unique voice, an extraordinary talent and a beautiful human being."

The Amp used to sit near a colleague who was really fond of Broadcast's 2003 disc "Haha Sound," and we became fans of the band's groovy electro-pop. Most people got their first taste of the band covertly, tucked onto the soundtrack of 1997's "Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery" -- the trippy keyboards on "The Book Lovers" well captured the film's woozy '60s mod vibe. They went on to release three albums and, most recently, a collaboration with the Focus Group that came out in 2009. "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening hand-picked them to perform at

  • Poison frontman Bret Michaels won the last season of "Celebrity Apprentice" partly because he was a fierce competitor who took Donald Trump's moronic challenges extremely seriously, and partly because he suffered a near-deadly brain hemorrhage before the finale and his victory made for awesome TV. But a musician now known more for his train wreck dating show than his Billboard hits can only wear the "Apprentice" crown for so long. And perhaps sensing that America loves watching musicians do silly things on reality shows -- Cyndi Lauper was a major highlight last time, too -- Trump's team has stacked the deck, nabbing seven of 'em for the next season of "Apprentice," which premieres on NBC March 6th. That's nearly half the cast!

[Just announced: Meet the cast of Survivor: Redemption Island]

The list includes La Toya Jackson, David Cassidy, Meatloaf, Dionne Warwick, Mark McGrath, Lil Jon, and John Rich. We have the highest hopes for Jackson, Warwick, and Lil Jon to provide the yuk-yuks.
