  • A massive survey of over 26,000 "music listeners" has confirmed what everyone in the music industry has known for years: People want to listen to music for free. The study, conducted by Nielsen Music and MIDEM (click to download the pdf), polled a wide range of music fans in over 53 markets in September 2010 to get to the root of how people use the Internet to get their daily dose of music. And surprise, the highest percentage of people, 57 percent, admitted to watching music videos over the past three months, compared to the less than 20 percent who said they actually purchased a single song digitally over that same period. Even scarier for the music industry, a whopping 49 percent of those polled said they downloaded music from the Internet without paying for it (a kind way of saying "illegal downloading" or "stealing").

This new study comes after 2010's year-end sales report showed that overall music sales (physical and digital combined) were down for the first time in chart

  • Have you ever sat back, took a long sip of root beer, and wondered, "What's the Kiss song 'I'm In Need of Love' really about?" The answer can be found on a Tumblr blog called Kiss Songs Explained (via Amp Kiss expert Chuck Klosterman) that does just that, in one sentence or less. In this case: "Ace [Frehley] looks for romance while under the influence of a powerful, weapons-grade hallucinogen." As the site's author explained when it launched over last summer, "I poke a little fun at the band's lyrical choices and personal foibles on this blog, but it is all in fun and is certainly coming from a place of respect and admiration. I love Kiss. To me they will always be larger than life." Kiss have a fairly massive discography, so this is one dedicated superfan.

Williams, who said he was "two years sober," will be entering a rehabilitation center because he evidently still has a taste for alcohol. To quote Film Drunk, "Fastest. Fame cycle. Ever."

Somewhere along the line, Williams and whoever is navigating Williams' career felt it was a good idea to tape multiple segments for the "Dr. Phil" show. Here's where things began to unravel.
