  • Nine years after the advent of iTunes and seven days after the Beatles finally embraced digital music, the first-week sales of the Fab Four's MP3 catalog have been revealed, and holy cow, the Beatles beat Kanye West! Well, not really, but sort of. With 450,000 albums and two million songs sold in their first week, the Beatles' entire catalog combined will probably outsell West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" on iTunes, but the Greatest Band in Music History needed 15-plus albums last week to surpass what Kanye's new disc will do on iTunes this week. Like many others, The Amp was initially skeptical about the impact the Beatles would have on iTunes, but we and all other critics of the too-late addition of the Beatles to Apple's industry-leading music service have been proven wrong.

On one hand, the totals are impressive: By selling 450,000 albums in one week, it's safe to assume the Beatles probably sold over three times as many albums on iTunes as every artist and band that

  • Knowing Ke$ha is a Pixies fan endeared her to The Amp a long time ago, but we learned three more things about the pop star recently that made us want to run out and buy her Black Friday disc "Cannibal":

She wore "Wayne's World" to the American Music Awards.
Ke$ha's unusual AMAs dress wasn't just made out of spools of VCR tapes -- they were her own recordings of cult classics from the '80s and '90s salvaged from a disaster. "When Nashville flooded earlier this year, all my favorite VHS tapes from when I was little -- 'Wayne's World,' 'The Lost Boys' -- were in my basement and got destroyed. I was watching 'Lost Boys' recently and thought, 'I should wear the insides of this tape as my dress at the AMAs,' " she told Spin.

Her ideal man is a pirate.
When asked about her turn-ons by Complex, Ke$ha named quarters. Like, a bag of money. "Like a big bearded guy with a bag of quarters. I think it's some weird pirate fantasy that was unfulfilled in a past lifetime."

    She knows her job

  • Eager to become the talk of every music fans' Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow, Axl Rose has just issued his most insane lawsuit yet, suing "Guitar Hero" makers Activision for $20 million for featuring Guns N' Roses' "Welcome to the Jungle" in "Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock." Axl initially signed off on "Jungle" being used in the game, but on one condition: Do not put any music by Velvet Revolver, which boasts guitarist Slash (Rose's former bandmate and mortal enemy) in the game. Well, not only did "Guitar Hero III" offer a bunch of Velvet Revolver songs, they crowned Slash the game's spokesperson, featured him on the game's cover and made him a playable avatar. Cue Axl's lawsuit.

"[Activision] began spinning a web of lies and deception to conceal its true intentions to not only feature Slash and VR prominently in GH III but also promote the game by emphasizing and reinforcing an association between Slash and Guns N' Roses and the band's song 'Welcome to the Jungle,' " Rose's lawyer

And Exhibit B? The "Dirty Dancing"-sampling clip arrives the same day Jennifer Grey wins "Dancing With the Stars." Coincidence, or are the Peas actually controlling the fate of the universe? • Everyone's been so distracted with Christina Aguilera's big-screen debut in "Burlesque" this week that they overlooked the fact that Nas, Mr. Illmatic himself, made his first foray into television acting on last night's episode of the rebooted "Hawaii 5-0." In his 80 seconds of screen time, courtesy of Nah Right, Nasir Jones plays "Gordon Smith," an ex-con caught up in a robbery after being used as a decoy by the actual robbers. The plot is essentially lifted from this much-circulated October 2008 story where a pack of thieves (dressed as road maintenance workers) used Craigslist to recruit a pack of unknowing decoys (actual road maintenance workers) to show up at the location where the crooks were robbing an armored car. The typical procedural "ripped from the headlines" plot line, so let's focus on Nas' small-screen acting chops.

The rapper previously starred in the 1998 gangsta film "Belly," but since then it's been a bunch of uncredited cameos or "As Himself" appearances. Despite

  • Complex editor Noah Callahan-Bever flew down to Kanye West's secret Hawaiian hideaway during the recording of "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" and turned his fancy-French-toast-eating, pick-up-basketball-playing time at Rap Camp into a fascinating cover story that explores West's creative process. Despite the glut of 'Ye coverage this week, we managed to glean five new pieces of intel:

A Kanye West/Jay-Z/Jack White Collaboration Exists and Will Blow Up the Internet One Day
    The "still-never-released song" hasn't leaked -- yet.

    Thou Shalt Obey Kanye's Rules
"Kanye Commandments" -- which were taped to the studio wall -- ranged from the obvious ("No Tweeting," "No Pictures") to the fashionable ("No Hipster Hats") to the instructional ("Just Shut the F--- Up Sometimes").

  • Fantastic news from one of the Amp's all-time favorite artists: PJ Harvey will have a new album ready for release on February 14th, 2011. "Let England Shake," the British rocker's ninth studio disc and follow-up to 2009's "A Woman A Man Walked By" with John Parish, was produced by Flood and recorded in a 19th century church in Dorset.

You know who loves recording in churches? Everybody! Is it the airy acoustics, magnanimous atmosphere, slight heresy of bringing the devil's music into God's crib, or the built-in story when journalists call? ("So you made this album in a church! What was that like!?")

John Mellencamp recorded 2010's "No Better Than This" partially in Savannah, Georgia's First African Baptist Church. Arcade Fire famously made 2007's "Neon Bible" in a Montreal church they converted into a studio. Coldplay excitedly told fans they were "Recording in Barcelona, moving from church to church, setting up where we can: in front of the altar, under the pulpit," while working on

  • Like its buddy the music industry, the touring business did not have the most profitable year in 2010. In fact, it was a pretty lousy stretch for Live Nation Ticketmaster, as many of its marquee acts either postponed entire tours (U2, Christina Aguilera) or canceled select shows (Rihanna, the Jonas Brothers) due to vague illnesses or scheduling conflicts (code words for "poor ticket sales"). Next year is thankfully shaping up to be a better one for the touring faction: Lady Gaga and U2 are coming back around, instant sell-outs like Radiohead, Coldplay and Kanye West are due for U.S. treks and, most importantly, Ticketmaster is incorporating social networking features into its site! That's right, Live Nation Ticketmaster, the publicly reviled concert giant that over a year after its merger still can't launch one uniform site, is going all Facebook on ticket buyers.

As Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard tells it, "The concept is simple: instead of letting your friends know you've purchased

  • Ne-Yo ended his medley of songs from "Libra Scale" at the American Music Awards Sunday flat on his back. According to the R&B star, that was how his performance was supposed to wrap -- but not exactly. "I was supposed to fall... but I wasn't supposed to fall like that," Ne-Yo told George Lopez last night. "There's a way that you can fall and not hurt yourself, and that's not it."

There's got to be something in the Perrier backstage at the AMAs, because falling flat is just what that show does. Last year, Jennifer Lopez slipped and landed on her rear end when a dance stunt went awry during her performance of "Louboutins" (2:52 mark). "Yeah, I meant to do that. That was part of the choreography," she later joked while dying inside. Adam Lambert also stumbled during a "For Your Entertainment" that fell flat in nearly every sense: The "American Idol" runner-up sang off-key, offended a huge chunk of his fanbase, and tumbled when his foot got caught on a piece of scenery (he recovered by

  • Yesterday the music industry got a jump on Black Friday by dropping many of the biggest albums of the year. Twenty-four hours later, who's moving the most units?

If iTunes is the barometer for how music is selling in America, we might as well just give Kanye his first place trophy. Impressively, West somehow placed four different iterations of "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" in the iTunes' Top 50 album chart: The explicit version's regular and deluxe editions at Number One and Number Two, the clean version's deluxe edition at Number 16 and the standard one at Number 47. Only the new-to-iTunes Beatles have more albums in the Top 50. Minaj's "Pink Friday" comes in at Number Three and Number Nine with the deluxe and regular explicit versions of her debut album, respectively.

Two more major November 22nd releases stand at Number Four and Five on iTunes -- Ke$ha's "Cannibal" and My Chemical Romance's "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys." Ne-Yo's "Libra Scale" hangs
