  • In a move that will likely send shockwaves through the music industry, RCA Music Group has announced that they're shutting down their subsidiaries Jive Records, J Records, and Arista Records, and lumping all those labels' artists under the RCA banner. Among the talent affected by the maneuver are Britney Spears, Alicia Keys, Chris Brown, Miley Cyrus, Rick Ross, Usher, and Justin Timberlake (if he decides to ever record music again), to name just a few from their star-studded rosters.

Just because RCA are consolidating their labels, it doesn't mean they're cleaning house -- except for former American Idol champ Lee DeWyze, who was dropped yesterday from his record contract after one album. "The path we've taken is to refresh RCA, so we're going to retire those brands. There may be a reason down the line to bring them back, but it's a clean slate here," RCA's COO Tom Corson told the Hollywood Reporter. "The concept is that there is value in branding RCA and not having it confused or

  • Since Jim Morrison died in 1973, the surviving Doors -- keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore -- have continued performing the band's music under a series of guises: Riders on the Storm, Manzarek-Kreiger, the Doors of the 21th Century, even simply "The Doors" with Manzarek on lead vocals. Those non-Morrison entities have featured singers like the Cult's Ian Astbury, Fuel's Brett Scallions, and someone named Miljenko Matijevic. However, the Doors have embarked on their strangest collaboration yet after teaming with popular dubstep producer Skrillex.

This is what Skrillex sounds like. The bluesy "L.A. Woman" and carnival-esque "Light My Fire" are light years away from the ground-shaking drums-and-bass dance movement that is dubstep -- the Doors didn't even employ a bassist -- so the band pairing with Skrillex will likely test even the most ardent Doors fans. According to Rolling Stone, the collaboration was part of an upcoming documentary called

  • Beyoncé's music videos from 4 have been hit-and-miss so far, but the album's fourth single "Countdown" is easily the best of the bunch. She's also going out on a high note: Considering she has a child on the way, it may be a while before her maternity leave ends and she's strutting her stuff in a music video again. Beyoncé (or CGI) does a good job of hiding the fact that she's
    pregnant,
but at the 2:10 mark she gives a subtle nod to Jay-Z's future kid by rubbing her baby bump.

Directed by Adria Petty (Tom Petty's daughter!), "Countdown" is a visual cornucopia of vibrant colors, quirky dance steps, clever edits, and Beyoncé split personalities, all packed into three-and-a-half minutes. The video sports a 1960s vibe throughout, and at various points B appears to be dressed like Audrey Hepburn, Alfred Hitchcock's vision of a cat burglar, and an extra from West Side Story. Midway through the video, she also steals Jennifer Beals' sweatshirt-off-the-shoulder look from Flashdance. Why all

  • The police investigators that examined Michael Jackson's mansion in the days following the King of Pop's death were the latest witnesses called to the stand at the manslaughter trial of Jackson's physician Dr. Conrad Murray. What did investigators testify to finding at the home? A small pharmacy's worth of prescription medication, including large bottles of Propofol, the sedative that caused Jackson to go into cardiac arrest. TMZ has a photo of all the prescription drugs recovered from Jackson's home, and it looks more like the bounty from a DEA raid than the contents of your everyday medicine cabinet.

By our count, there are 28 vials, seven pill bottles, three large containers of Propofol, and other bagged substances. Add it all up, and that's way too much medication for a singer who was deemed healthy enough to schedule a 50-concert run at London's O2 Arena. According to the Los Angeles Times, prosecutors honed in on one item in particular, an empty bottle of Propofol that was found

  • If there was any question Coldplay were lobbying for the title of "the next U2," those doubts have been erased by the group's latest move. On Viva la Vida, or Death and All His Friends and the upcoming Mylo Xyloto, Chris Martin's crew recruited producer Brian Eno, a longtime U2 collaborator, to join them in the studio. Having covered the aural side of invoking Bono's stadium anthems, the band will now focus on the visual aspect: Anton Corbijn, U2's favorite director, has been hired to helm Colplay's October 26th American Express Unstaged live webcast. The next step for Martin is tracking down the Edge's personal chef.

Corbijn has a long history with U2: He's directed four of their music videos (including "One" and "Electrical Storm"), filmed their No Line on the Horizon supplemental movie Linear, released the book U2 & I, and photographed their iconic Joshua Tree cover. Corbijn has been dubbed the band's creative director, so it's no shock that Coldplay has sought his services.

  • Axl Rose isn't looking anything like the lithe rock star he was at the height of his fame. When Guns N' Roses played at the Rock in Rio festival in Brazil this week, the 49-year-old sole original member cut a figure that was a far cry from the lean and mean body that made him a hard rock pin-up in the late '80s.

Garbed in a bulging yellow raincoat, Rose obscured his puffy face with sunglasses and a black hat. In response to an inquiry about his apparent weight gain, a rep for Rose said: "You are the first to mention this. If anything, it might be his time off from touring."

After coming onstage two hours late, the tardy Rose voiced his concerns
to the audience about prancing around a rain-soaked stage, thereby
excusing himself from too much physical exertion. "I'm going to try to focus on singing rather than running around like an
idiot. I'm better at being an idiot. We want everybody to be careful." Contrary to his stated goal, Rose struggled to keep time with his
    backing band even

  • Bummed that the NBA season might be wiped out because of a work stoppage? This video, courtesy of Balls Don't Lie, should help tide you over until the players and owners settle on a new collective bargaining agreement. In this roughly 40-year-old home movie, John Lennon and Miles Davis take a time out from being their awesome selves to shoot hoops in the driveway. Even in tight jeans and boots, Davis shows off a sweet jumper, but Lennon... let's just say his basketball skills are about as refined as Ringo Starr's singing voice. His flat-footed heave at the basket gave meaning to the phrase "White men can't jump" decades before Wesley Snipes disparaged Woody Harrelson's dunks.
