  • Leslie West, frontman for the classic rock group Mountain and one of shock jock Howard Stern's favorite guitarists, underwent emergency surgery this past Saturday after his leg began swell due to diabetes. With the infection spreading quickly, doctors were able to save West's life, but he did lose one of his legs below the knee after the operation, Reuters reports. Mountain, most known for their hit "Mississippi Queen" and the fact their fourth gig together was Woodstock, were actually scheduled to perform in Mississippi this weekend before West was rushed to a Biloxi hospital when his leg swelled and his foot went "septic." West has long struggled with type 2 diabetes and his weight, which lent to the band name Mountain.

"The doctors tried for two days to save [the leg] to no avail. The decision to amputate was one that was necessary to save his life as the infection was spreading throughout his body," Leslie's wife Jenni West wrote in an email to Reuters. "The nursing staff and

  • Beyoncé warmed up for this weekend's Glastonbury Festival by testing out a few covers in Nice, France, last night -- Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody," Prince's "The Beautiful Ones," and Kings of Leon's "Sex on Fire," all stacked up one after another in a sort-of medley. The bad news it that the singer is likely jittery about the web since her new album 4 leaked and she appears to be swatting recordings from the show at the Palais Nikaia off YouTube today -- but seriously, if you're going to do a Prince homage, you can't do much better than that. The footage Jay-Z shot of her practicing "1 + 1" in her American Idol dressing room is still on the 'Net, so Beyoncé's decision to nix last night's video seems

  • Gossip Girl actor Penn Badgley is officially confirmed to portray Jeff Buckley in an upcoming biopic about the Grace singer, the son of rock great Tim Buckley. Contrary to previous reports, however, Badgley will not star as Buckley in the biopic that actors like James Franco and Robert Pattinson were eyeing, the "official" one being executive produced by Buckley's mother Mary Guibert. Instead, Badgley will appear in a competing Buckley film called Greetings From Tim Buckley, a movie that documents Jeff Buckley's 1991 performance at a Tim Buckley tribute concert at Brooklyn, New York's St. Ann's Church, the Playlist reports. That performance, which featured Jeff singing many of his father's greatest songs, marked Jeff Buckley's first-ever live appearance. Filming on Greetings From Tim Buckley begins this August.

"To play a man who was singularly gifted as an artist, greatly misunderstood and mythologized as a human being ... It's something very special and sacred," Badgley said in a
