The last time The Amp really paid attention to Ariel Pink he looked like a dirty hippie. Evidently, at some point he began looking like Kurt Cobain in drag stumbling home from Studio 54. And for his performance on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" yesterday, Pink and his crew straight up raided Cher's closet -- perhaps inspired by the fact that the "Burlesque" star has now scored a Number One single in six straight decades. Dave Grohl, are you seeing this?
If you can look beyond all the blinding Bob Mackie sequins, you'll see Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti making their TV debut playing one of The Amp's favorite songs of 2010, the hypnotic "Round and Round," which our own Daniel Kreps called a " 'Bohemian Rhapsody' of indie rock ... a multi-suite tour through 1970s AM Gold." It's one of the more bizarre late-night performances we've seen in a while -- and one of the most sparkly that didn't involve glitter queen Ke$ha.
