Beastie Boys Bring the ‘Noise’ (Finally!)

If we are keeping it real (and that is what we do here at The Amp), the Beastie Boys haven't had an A-grade single in 13 years. That's a startling statistic considering for the 12 years prior to that, pretty much every Beastie Boys song was a knockout, and yes, we are counting "Egg Raid on Mojo." Their May 3rd disc Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 has been completed in fits and starts -- the band took a breather so Adam "MCA" Yauch could battle cancer -- and the trio have been so cutesy while promoting it (claiming it coincidentally has the same songs as Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 1, tee hee!), we've been worried about its quality.

But -- heave a big relieved sigh with us -- first single "Make Some Noise" leaked today and it is the good stuff (hear it at Nah Right if the embed is dead). Over a groovy, Hello Nasty-era synth line that recalls Stevie Wonder's funk-fest "Superstition" the three MCs pass the mic, rhyming about... nothing specific from what we can gather. Mike D says something about opening a restaurant with Ted Danson, Ad-Rock raps about birds, and MCA makes an extended metaphor about a lobotomy. Plus: cowbell!
