For an album we don't even think really exists, Dr. Dre's long-delayed Detox continues to churn out new singles. This time, it's Dre and Eminem reuniting once again on a song called "Die Hard." However, as is Dre's M.O. lately, he couldn't simply release the song without anchoring it as a promotional vehicle for something else; in this case, Showtime's Fight Camp 360°: Pacquiao vs. Mosley. Since the song soundtracks the show's final episode -- Pacquiao defeated Mosley the following night -- "Die Hard" is interspersed with interviews and boxing noises. We only get a preview of "Die Hard" from the episode (two Dre verses, Eminem's chorus, and the backbeat) but it's safe to say this song has more in common with classic Dre than the mediocre "I Need a Doctor."
Dre seems acutely aware of his fans' frustration after constantly postponing Detox over the years when he raps, "I calculate my next step, which is accept the expectations, they're sort of too high to meet, my reputation's in jep, yep. Face it the fans, they've been upset, yep, but patient. I love them for that." Dre's just rubbing it in at this point. As of now, there's no release date for the "Die Hard" single, just like there's no release date for Detox (it missed its 4/20 unveiling). Hopefully when the song arrives, it'll have some John McClane references in it.
