"Sorry, I don't do interviews," he repeatedly told reporters on the red carpet at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards last night in New York, according to E!, who point out that the rapper's last published interview consisted of head nods.
Perhaps West is simply taking our advice: After he dropped a nearly 1,300-word diatribe at a show in New York last fall, we griped, "West has made what half of The Amp considers the best album of 2010. ... And yet every day, West chips away at its brilliance by filling our brain-space with his incessant speechifying." We even made a nifty info graphic demonstrating how West's ridiculousness was inversely effecting our enjoyment of the album. Well, we don't have ol' Kanye to kick around anymore. And fine, Kanye, we'll admit it -- we miss you!
In February The Amp noted that West's marketing plan for his masterpiece My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy made no sense. It continues to confound. He released the video for "Monster" this week, six months after everyone stopped caring about it. He's selling high-end scarves. Going totally silent isn't going to stoke any interest in these projects, and most of the worst damage has already been done. But maybe West is content to sit back, relax, and watch Lady Gaga take the punches until his joint disc with Jay-Z is ready to drop.
