Not too long ago, the Kaiser Chiefs were anointed the title of "Next Big British Band," a distinction that gets handed out on an annual basis to those rockers whose huge success in the U.K. could potentially cross the Atlantic. However -- like Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys, and Bloc Party before and after them -- the Chiefs briefly flirted with mainstream American fame before settling for a small but devoted U.S. following. The band has figured out a surefire way to get themselves back into the good graces of the American music press, though: Put Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, and Beyonce all in the same video. How could music bloggers not write about that?
Of course, the Kaiser Chiefs -- the first band to tweet to The Amp -- didn't actually manage to get three of the biggest pop stars on Earth to drive around in a POS car, flash passing motorists, scuffle with police officers, and just run amok in the streets of Great Britain for their "Kinda Girl You Are" video. Instead, they hired three impersonators who do share a startling resemblance to their platinum-selling counterparts. Especially the Beyonce clone; she looks more like Jay-Z's wife than Knowles' own sister Solange. Most importantly, the visuals are paired with a catchy song that shows flashes of why the Kaiser Chiefs were earmarked for U.S. fame to begin with. (Admittedly, this is the first Kaiser song The Amp has heard since 2004's "I Predict a Riot," so the Chiefs' ploy was successful in that regard.)
