Last week, Adele canceled all her tour dates and promotional appearances for the remainder of 2011 to undergo throat surgery. While the singer has been wrestling voice problems for the second half of this year, insult was added to her injury this weekend when a Twitter trending topic suggested that Adele is secretly fighting a much more serious disease. "ADELE THROAT CANCER," in all caps, spent much of the pre-Halloween weekend in the popular Trends section, and the rumors had spread to the point that Adele's reps were forced to comment on them. Long story short: Adele does not have throat cancer.
"We would like to reiterate that Adele is to undergo surgery for a hemorrhaged vocal chord. All reports regarding any other condition are 100% false," Adele's reps said (via Us Weekly). It's unclear how the cancer rumor started, but Adele was a long-time smoker until she recently quit as her throat problems began to mount. Still, at only 23 years old, she would probably need to smoke cigarettes like this person or this person a few times a day to get throat cancer at such a young age. (Note: The Amp are not doctors.) Thankfully, it appears as though we don't need to #prayforadele -- another popular trending topic this weekend, and today -- after all.
