In Waits' stacked, four-decade discography, he's never gone more than six years between albums, so we were becoming concerned retirement is near. For the past seven years, he's kept us satiated with the mammoth rarities collection "Orphans: Brawlers, Bawlers & Bastards" and the live album "Glitter & Doom Live," plus making his usual madcap acting appearances in "The Book of Eli" and "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus". (Waits' "Mr. Nick" was essentially the Devil in the latter, imagine that.)
Of course, the announcement of an upcoming Waits album coincides nicely with his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 14th. As The Amp previously reported, our brains will collectively explode with amazingness as Waits will be inducted by Neil Young, and then the two gods of lyricism will likely duet as per Rock Hall custom. It's the must-see music event of the spring.
