Back in November, The Amp wondered whether Bruce Springsteen's performance of Willow Smith's "Whip My Hair" was his most hilarious moment. Turns out, it was not. Old footage of Springsteen's original video for "Dancing in the Dark" emerged this weekend (via Gothamist), and it easily marks a new low but comedic high for Bruce. It's even better than an animated gif of Springsteen sliding crotch-first into a camera during his Super Bowl halftime gig.
The 12-minute-long video is pretty much Springsteen's audition tape for Olivia Newton-John's "Physical," with Springsteen making so many bad wardrobe decisions -- that head band, those suspenders, a tucked-in tank top -- that we'd lobby to revoke his Bossness. In terms of moves, 1984 Springsteen could have learned a lot from Thom Yorke in "Lotus Flower." This would've been a perfect fit for Billy Idol's "Dancing With Myself," but for "Dancing in the Dark," it's just wrong. Thankfully, Springsteen was probably horrified by the dailies of him dancing and wisely opted to go the Courteney Cox route we're all familiar with:
- Bruce Springsteen
- Willow Smith
- Whip My Hair
