LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Ashlee Simpson-Wentz has filed for divorce from husband Pete Wentz, a spokesperson for the couple confirmed to Access Hollywood.
"After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," the couple said in a joint statement, released by a spokesperon, to Access. "We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."

According to TMZ, who first reported the split, Ashlee filed the papers in Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason for the split from her rocker beau.
The couple began dating in 2006 and wed in May 2008.
