  • Green Day, Framed

Green Day needs no introduction, but we'll provide one anyway. The creativity-crushing contract we signed with Y! Music demands it.

Coming out of the late-'80s punk scene in the Bay Area, Green Day really hit it big with their 1994 album, Dookie, which got to #2 in the U.S. and #1 in various other countries. Although a lot of their hard-core fans thought they'd sold out with the major label release, they followed it up with Insomniac, arguably their best album, and many since, all of them landing in Billboard's Top Ten. Most recently, they've taken their talents to the stage with a successful adaptation of their hit 2004 LP, American Idiot.

  • Del Shannon, Framed

Back in the olden times, when many of your grandparents were looking for musical entertainment, they'd turn on the radio, which was a box that was somehow connected to a person playing "records." These records were large platters - actual physical objects! - that spun around and emitted music through a process no one really understands any more. The only way you could hear the song again was to either own the platter yourself, as well as the spinning machine, or wait until the radio box emitted it again.

It was quite a primitive system! No wonder they got us into Vietnam!

Anyway, the aborigines of those times, living in a world with no internet - and, almost incomprehensively worse, no Framed! - still had their stars. And one of them was this week's guest, Del Shannon. Del grew up in a small town in Michigan and released his first (and only) #1 song early in 1961, a song called "Runaway." He went on to have a few more hits like "Hats Off To Larry" and "Keep Searchin''' before ending up

  • The Black Keys, Framed

Few bands have been bringin' it lately like the Black Keys, the bluesy rock duo from Ohio who took home three Grammys a few weeks back. And the Keys - vocalist/guitarist Dan Auerbach and drummer/producer Patrick Carney - have been making some damn funny videos for their latest album, Brothers.

Last year's "Tighten Up" was quite good, but their latest, "Howlin' For You," is really exceptional. Instead of a video for a song, it's a trailer for a movie... a B-movie that features hot babes, stunning clichés, and stars on the level of skateboarder Shaun White and the great Todd Bridges of Different Strokes, identified here as Sir Todd Bridges.

So give it up, if you will, for the Black Keys, our captions, and everything else that makes life worth living. Ladies and gentlemen, Las Teglas de Negro!

1 - "As always, my hopes and dreams return to ballet."

2 - "Your attack on Smallville is finished, Tiny Godzilla."

  • The Cure, Framed

Welcome back to Framed, everyone. It is here--and only here!--that your deep-seated interest in popular music will be treated with all the respect it deserves.

This week, we're very happy to be featuring a video by the Cure, one of the really great bands out of the 1980s. We've got "End of the World," their 2004 video, and, believe us, it's a pip. It's loaded with stop motion animation and, as art, is right up there with Gumby and TV's "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town." You're sure to find it, and our captions, pretty good.

The Cure, who've released 13 studio albums over the years, are fronted by vocalist Robert Smith, who is also the star of this week's video. Everyone enjoys his artfully-applied make-up and upbeat attitude, and both are fully on display here. So pull up a chair and dig the Cure, then come back next week for even more crazy good fun!

    1- "Damn. Still no pulse."

2 - "What is it about DiMartino and no pants? Is he drunk? Again?"

3 - "But who would have the temerity and

  • Pink, Framed

All right, time for a brand new Framed! (An aside to our readers: we absolutely love writing this blog; no kidding. We devote way more time to Framed than we do those four other weekly blogs we're contracted to write. We wouldn't tell this to everybody, but we like writing Framed a lot more than we like writing the religion blog we do for beliefnet. Or that ropin' blog we do for eRodeo.com.)

And, excitingly, this week we welcome back one of our favorite artists, the inimitable Pink, and her video, "F***in' Perfect." It's f***in' good!

As everyone knows, Pink is a champion of human rights, and, in this week's vid, she champions the rights of girls everywhere. We follow the life of one young woman who develops a poor self-image, with potentially tragic results... although, in the end, it all turns out well. Because of Pink!

Warning to parents: This week's video depicts violence that is inappropriate for young and/or sensitive viewers. Please be advised.

    Important blog note! Whoa, we

  • Cee-Lo Green, Framed

Hola, readers, and welcome to Framed, the blog that's allowed America to laugh again. This week we invite you to look at a brand-spanking-new Cee-Lo Green video, "No One's Gonna Love You." It's some quality stuff!

Cee-Lo, who is one-half of Gnarls Barkley, is a multi-talented rapper from Atlanta who may be best known as a solo artist for last year's Grammy Award-nominated, expletive-laden song, "F**k You." "No One's Gonna Love You" is a cover of the classic Band Of Horses' song, and the vid takes us on a prolonged road trip with two lovers, where one thing leads to another. Cee-Lo himself doesn't actually appear in the video, which--to be honest--is the way we like it around here. Too many artists muck up these things, if you ask us.

Please enjoy this week's video and captions, which, this time, are intentionally funny! See you next week!

Important blog note! For the curious among you--and, frankly, we find all of you to be kind of curious--Rob O'Connor wrote captions 7 and 11 last

  • James Taylor, Framed

Hello, readers, and welcome back to Framed, the blog that continues to exist for reasons unknown. This week, we're excited to bring you folk-rock legend James Taylor and the video for his 1988 song, "Baby Boom Baby."

Taylor's career spans the decades from the 1960s to the present day. He's had 11 Top 10 albums during that time, and is well-known for iconic songs like "You've Got a Friend," "Fire and Rain," and "Shower the People." His early struggles with mental health and drug issues, both of which he overcame, are well-documented.

We're sure that -- like us! -- you'll enjoy Taylor's easy-going musical stylings in this week's song, and look forward to hearing from you right away!

Important blog note! You'll recall that over the last several months we've had some guest captions by Robert, the inadequately-paid Y! Music employee who sends us our weekly videos. Although Robert's work didn't catch on in a big way -- perhaps he was simply ahead of his time -- we'd like to thank him for his

  • Kings Of Leon, Framed

Let's talk about the Kings of Leon's name. Is that a weird name for a band, or what? Since they're our guest artists this week, we decided to bring you readers the real story behind this mystery. Here's what we found:

    1. The Kings of Leon consist of three brothers and a cousin, and the brothers' grandfather and father were both named Leon.

    2. The Kingdom of León was a Christian kingdom in what is now part of Spain and Portugal. It existed from 910 A.D. till 1301 A.D., and there's a city called León in present-day Spain.

    3. "Their name is thought to be both historical and blasphemous as a reversal of the king of Noel," according to a Christian website called the Apostolic Friends Forum.

So, to sum it up, we don't know why they're called the Kings of Leon. But we can all agree it's an amazingly stupid name. And, hopefully, blasphemous.

No matter! This week's video is "Pyro," off their new album, Come Around Sundown, which has hit #1 on many charts around the world. The whole thing takes

  • The Black Eyed Peas, Framed

We've got good news and bad news for you, readers. The good news is that this week's Framed is as good as any we've ever written. No doubt about it!

And the bad news? That's a pretty low bar!

Ha ha ha. We like to kid ourselves! Seriously, though, this week we welcome the great Black Eyed Peas to Framed for the very first time! Welcome, Peas!

Coming out of L.A., like absolutely everything that's good in our country, the eclectic Peas have sold over 47 million records and won six Grammys. They once performed in front of over a million people at a concert in Brazil, and they're slated to perform at halftime in this year's Ravens-Bears Super Bowl game.

Our video is "The Time," the first single off their astonishing new album, The Beginning. Like us, you're sure to find it vastly entertaining, so sit a spell!

Important blog note! Well, we certainly got some interesting comments about last week's Katy Perry installment. In addition to the posts of our usual distinguished panel, who weighed

  • Gloria Estefan, Framed

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Framed, the blog that's good for reasons that are difficult to articulate.

Since Christmas is just a few days away, this week we have another seasonal video for you: "Silent Night" by Gloria Estefan. We caution that Gloria's take on this holiest of classics is way librul: in addition to decrying war, she also sticks up for the disenfranchised and starving poor. Way to put us in the holiday mood, Gloria!

Well, no matter... our cheerful captions will chase the Grinch out of this week's frames. In the meantime, please accept sincere wishes for a happy holiday season from Gummo, Robert, Tiffany and everybody here at Framed and Y! Music! We'll see you next week!

Important blog note! Speaking of Robert, most readers continued with their astonishing string of misses. His work was obvious only to regular reader Dave DiMartino, who once again wins the $500 first prize for naming Robert's caption as #5. Way to go, reader!

And if most people can't tell the
