  • Katie Holmes & ‘SYTYCD’ Stars Celebrate National Dance Day

Saturday, July 30, was the second annual National Dance Day, a new official holiday created by "So You Think You Can Dance" producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe's Dizzy Feet Foundation to encourage amateur dancers of all ages and athletic levels to dance for fun and fitness. After routines choreographed by "SYTYCD" pros Mary Murphy, Robin Antin, and Tabitha & Napoleon were posted on www.dance4yourlife.org for fans to learn, those fans congregated at locations across the nation to participate in flashmobs (and burn a few calories while doing so--they were literally dancing for their lives!).

Lythgoe himself, along with (Dizzy Feet Foundation co-founders) Katie Holmes and "Dancing With The Stars" judge Carrie Ann Inaba, plus Nappytabs, Antin, and Sharon and Billy Blanks Jr., all appeared at L.A.'s National Dance Day event at the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park. Meanwhile, Mary Murphy emceed the Washington, D.C. event at the National Mall, joined Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, who

  • ‘Celebrity Rehab’ Counselor Bob Forrest Gets The Rockumentary Treatment

Bob Forrest is best known in the mainstream today for his appearances on VH1's "Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew," but before he got clean, the addiction counselor was a fixture in Los Angeles's late '80s/early '90s rock scene with his underrated band, Thelonious Monster, who were contemporaries of other L.A. legends like Jane's Addiction, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Guns N' Roses, and Courtney Love. If Bob had been able to get his act together back then, Thelonious Monster may have become as successful as GNR or RHCP, but instead those years for Bob were marked by extreme heroin addiction and multiple rehab visits of his own. The fact that he not only survived, but later thrived, is nothing short of a rock 'n' roll miracle.

Bob's miraculous journey from death's door to the door of Dr. Drew's Pasadena Recovery Center is fascinatingly detailed in the new Keirda Bahruth-directed documentary Bob And The Monster, which premiered at South By Southwest this past March and makes its Los Angeles

  • Fantasia, For Real? Troubled Idol Announces Pregnancy

Well, it looks like the plot will thicken even more during the third season of Fantasia Barrino's hit VH1 reality series, "Fantasia For Real." After Season 2 detailed the "American Idol" winner's breakup from her then-married boyfriend, Antwaun Cook, and the subsequent fallout (her emotional breakdown and attempted suicide), this weekend Fantasia announced onstage at a charity concert that she is pregnant--and while she didn't say who the baby's father is, it very well may be Antwaun, with whom she was recently spotted vacationing while sporting a sizable baby bump.

"You are the first that I share this news with," Fantasia announced during a July 31 benefit show at the opening of the Riverview Apartments in Jacksonville, Florida, as she placed her hand on her belly. "And I share this with you because I can relate to you. For a while I walked around thinking, 'What will they say? What will they think about me?' But now I tell you, I don't live my life for folk. So I tell you, this child

  • Oh Canada! Adam Lambert Debuts New Song In Quebec

It's a good time to be an Adam Lambert fan. And an even better time to be Adam Lambert. After months of the Glamerican Idol laying relatively low while working on his salivatingly anticipated second album, he's reared his impeccably coiffed head several times as of late. First, he ranked high on Forbes' list of top-earning "American Idol" alums. Then a lost pre-"Idol" song he recorded with electronic artist J. Scott G., "Live The Life," finally saw a commercial release. Then a teaser of his upcoming "Behind The Music" special hit the Interweb. And now a brand-new song by Adam, tentatively titled "Outlaws Of Love," has premiered, and the Interweb has unsurprisingly imploded with positive responses.

Adam performed July 29 at the St. Agathe en Feux Festival in Quebec, Canada (or is that "Glamada"?), where he crooned the previously unheard ballad for an audience of very lucky Canucks. And before the night was over, before Adam had probably even wiped off the night's eyeliner, a raw

  • Casey James Premieres First Country-Rock Single

Sometimes it still surprises me that Casey James didn't win "American Idol" last year. He had all the right ingredients for "Idol" success: all-American good looks to woo the tween girls and cougars, bluesy guitar chops to impress the music snobs, Texas roots to win over "Idol's" large Southern voter base, and just enough twang to please country music fans (and we all know from Season 10's results, lots of country fans watch "Idol"). Plus his cover of John Lennon's "Jealous Guy" was one of the best "American Idol" performances ever.

Casey only placed third in Season 9, but he made enough of an impression to land a record deal with Sony Nashville imprint BNA Records anyway, and now he's about to release his first single, "Let's Don't Call It A Night." The single officially goes to radio August 15, but you can listen to it right now, thanks to AINow.org:

Casey co-penned the tune with pro country songsmiths Brice Young (Gary Allan, Randy Houser, Randy Travis, Josh Turner) and Terry

  • ‘SYTYCD’ Judges Discuss Top 8 Week Eliminations

This week on "So You Think You Can Dance's" results show, while the judges ultimately decided to honor America's decision and just send the two lowest vote-getters (Jess and Jordan) home, there was still plenty of debate between Nigel Lythgoe, Mary Murphy, and guest judge Rob Marshall (of Chicago/Nine film fame).

Rob, a Broadway fan and old acquaintance of Jess, understandably fought for Jess, and all three judges agonized over which girl to send home (since both Jordan and Caitlynn's solos were weak) and which boy to keep (since Jess proved he was more technically skilled, but Tadd was more unique). And all of the judges were surprised to see underdog Ricky finally escape the bottom four this week.

Backstage after Thursday's eliminations, the three judges spoke to reporters about this week's results, and they were full of juicy information. Click the videos below to see Nigel discuss why he refuses to change the show's gender-quota rules, who he predicts will make the top four, and

  • ‘SYTYCD’ Dancers Jordan & Jess Speak Post-Elimination

When Jordan and Jess danced a rhumba on "So You Think You Can Dance" this week, they shared little onstage chemistry--something that likely helped lead to their downfall (both were voted off this week). But ironically, when the two spoke to reporters backstage at "SYTYCD" Thursday, immediately after their elimination, they bantered together quite hilariously, their screwball personalities complementing each other perfectly.

While some post-elimination "SYTYCD" interviews this season have been depressing, emotional affairs--like the nights Ryan or Miranda went home in tears--this week's chat with Jordan and Jess was much more light-hearted. The two just seemed happy for the opportunity--and if they were actually sad, well then, they hid it so well they ought to consider going into acting instead of dancing.

Check out Jess and Jordan's post-results show interview below, in which Jess discusses his Broadway amibitions and past with guest judge Rob Marshall; Jordan reveals her plans for a

  • ‘SYTYCD’ Top 8 Results: The End of Jess, Jordan, and Jazz-Hands

It was a happy/sad night on "So You Think You Can Dance" this Thursday. The sad part? Jazzy Jess and Jordan were voted off, and at this point in the season, no really deserves to go home--they're all amazing, they're all deserving, and they'll all be missed. So what's the happy part, you ask? Well, after the biggest vote of this season...Ricky was safe! Ricky was safe! Oh, and did I mention, RICKY WAS SAFE? The only downside of this development was I didn't get to see Ricky do another jaw-dropping dance-for-his-life solo, but hey, if that means I'll get to see him on next week's show, and maybe even in the finale the week after that, I can accept this.

It was definitely a surprise, that Ricky--after weeks of being in the bottom, and after Nigel Lythgoe had doomily predicted that he'd be in the bottom again this week--joined shoo-ins Melanie, Sasha, and Marko in the top four this Thursday. Did Nigel's prediction galvanize Ricky's worried fanbase? Did guest judge Lady Gaga's kind words

  • ‘The Voice’ Tour Kicks Off In L.A.

"The Voice" kicked off its first concert tour in Los Angeles Wednesday night, at the Gibson Amphitheater, and inevitably comparisons to the similar "American Idol" tour (which had breezed through L.A. only 13 days before) sprung to mind. There were several ways in which the "Voice" concert differed from "Idol's"; some good, some not so good. But in many aspects, of course, "The Voice" tour was a very similar show: It was an upbeat team effort, with the contestants (regardless of how high they'd placed in the competition) cheerfully jamming and singing on each other's songs, and it was a variety-style revue, with the top eight belting out their crowd-pleasing TV hits across a wide array of musical genres. But the most pleasing similarity--and the most important one, at the end of it all--was the fact that, just like with the "Idol" tour, there was a whole lot of talent on that stage. How bizarre it is that nowadays, such great singers have to go on shows like "The Voice" and "American

  • ‘SYTYCD’ Top 8 Recap: Beyond The Edge Of Glory

"It's gonna be a good night," hostess Cat Deeley declared at the top of Wednesday's "So You Think You Can Dance" episode, in what was surely the understatement of the season. This was in fact the best episode of the season. And it wasn't just must-see TV this week because of its very special guest judge (Lady Gaga, who did an amazing job), or the other guest judge, illustrious Chicago/Nine director Rob Marshall. It was because THE DANCING WAS INCREDIBLE.

No, that was not a capslock error. There were some truly wonderful, Emmy-worthy routines this evening, soundtracked by some gorgeous music and executed by some very gorgeous dancers. An episode like this was a perfect example of why "SYTYCD" is one of the most envelope-pushing, pulse-pounding, high-quality talent shows in the history of television.

The two terrific hours were packed with a dozen dances (eight by the contestants with allstars, four with the contestants dancing with each other) and, unsurprisingly, lots of colorful
