After an underwhelming and ballad-heavy top two "American Idol" showdown Wednesday night, Fox aired a new episode of Nigel Lythgoe's other talent show, "So You Think You Can Dance" — and this is when the network thankfully picked up the pace.

The show, now in its 10th season, held auditions for the first time in Detroit, and Wednesday's Motor City movers really revved up the sex appeal. There was a troupe of actual exotic male dancers, an abs challenge, a "jittin" dancer who practically gave judge Mary Murphy a lap-dance, and a smooth tap-dancing showman who could be this year's breakout heartthrob.

Was it Kree Harrison's homecoming? Lazaro Arbos's audition? Angie Miller's Boston tribute?

Nope.

"Hearing that Randy [Jackson] was leaving," Keith answered. When reporters chuckled, Keith added, "It's true!"

[photo Michael Becker/Fox]On Wednesday night, Kree Harrison and Candice Glover competed on the final performance show of "American Idol" Season 12, in a battle of what Ryan Seacrest rather uncreatively called "Country vs. Soul." (Really, Ryan? That's all you could come up with? Season 8's "Guy-Next-Door vs. Guyliner" had a better ring to it.)

Historically, this was the first girl-vs.-girl "Idol" finale showdown since Fantasia Barrino and Diana DeGarmo in Season 3. Was it as exciting as that finale? Well, Season 3 was nine long years ago, so my memory is fuzzier than one of Nicki Minaj's wigs…but in a word, no. No, it was not.

But fear not: Jon Peter Lewis and Ryan Hayes have launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund their post-"Voice" debut album. And to whet your appetite for all things Whale, they've released an acoustic performance of their Byrds-y, Everly Brothers-esque original, "Bright and Early."

On last night's top 12 "Voice" results show, Vedo went home — as I'd predicted — and so did Garrett Gardner, as many Reality Rocks readers predicted. (Congrats, readers.) Neither elimination was a huge surprise, although I was a little sad to see Garrett and his lip-ring go through the (w)ringer this soon.

"SYTYCD" is back! [photo: Mathieu Young/Fox]"So You Think You Can Dance," aka the best show in the history of television, returned to Fox this Tuesday, after a shaky ninth season plagued by format changes and preemptions. I was thrilled to see the show come back. "SYTYCD" is just pure talent — no silly feuding, no gimmicks, no TMZ gossip about the contestants' pasts or supposed showmances, no industry talk about the judges' inflated salaries. Just talent, talent, talent. You know, the way a talent show should be.

Vedo and Garrett Gardner leave "The Voice"The first two top 12 finalists to be voted off by America said goodbye to "The Voice" this Tuesday, and it can be argued that both singers were the victims of questionable song choices by their respective coaches. I'll cut both of those coaches some slack, since they were the two newbies, Usher and Shakira, who are still learning how to play the game. But hopefully they'll make wiser choices for their remaining contestants on future shows.
