  • Kris Allen & Allison Iraheta Don’t Phone It In On ‘Oprah’ Duet

Allison Iraheta is about to hit the road with Adam Lambert, but today she joined her other Season 8 "American Idol" buddy, Kris Allen, on a wonderful duet of Coldplay's "The Scientist." The joint appearance was part of Oprah Winfrey's "No Phone Zone" rally at John Marshall High School in Los Angeles, the purpose of which was to encourage people to avoid using their cell phones while driving. However, I suspect that after this stunning performance, many spectators were tempted to tweet, text, and chat about it on their drive home.

A Krallison interview conducted by Lisa Ling at the rally will air today on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," but in the meantime, check out these videos of their rehearsal and performance:

Sigh. Videos like this just make me yearn for a Coldplay Night on "American Idol." Or, more importantly, they make me yearn for Season 8, a season when no one ever phoned it in.

  • ‘American Idol’ Results: So Much For That Whole “Girls’ Season” Thing

On the "Twilight"-inspired "VampireIdols" Ford commercial that ran during Wednesday night's "American Idol"top six results show, Michael Lynche portrayed the victim of the five vampires playedby fanged castmastes Crystal Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, andSiobhan Magnus. So when Michael then landed in the bottom three yet again, I assumed thismusical vignette would prove prophetic: that in the end, theother five contestants would suck away all of his votes, and Mike would bite the dust.

I of course did not want to see Michael go, but thealternatives were even worse: Inexplicably and infuriatingly, this week'sbottom three was rounded out by my girl Siobhan Magnus, who delivered a fineand fiery comeback performance Tuesday night and was considered a frontrunner not long ago, and Casey James, who thisweek gave what all four judges declared his best performance to date.

And then, Ryan Seacrest shockingly told Michael he was safe. Whoa. Casey and Siobhan in the bottom two?

  • Reality Flashback: Sons Of Sylvia on ‘The Next Great American Band’

I think I might have been the only person who watched The Next Great American Band, Fox's failed, one-season-only attempt to apply the American Idol formula to a battle-of-the-bands format back. It was actually a pretty good show--with nice judge Sheila E in the Paula Abdul center seat, the Goo Goo Dolls' Johnny Rzeznik in the man-of-reason Randy Jackson role, and Australian Idol meanie "Dicko" doing the requisite curmudgeonly Cowell-like shtick. I liked this show so much that when it aired its 2007 Christmas special, I sent out YouTube clips of the top seven contestants performing an Xmas medley as my holiday e-cards that year. I wonder if anyone bothered to open them...

Anyway, while my vote that year was with inappropriately shirtless tween metal band Light Of Doom (who ruled), I was still pleased when alt-country family act the Clark Brothers won in the end. And I always wondered what happened to them. Despite their model-handsome looks, buttery harmonies, and winning ways with the

  • This Bites: Crystal Bowersox Offered Free Dental Services

I'vereceived some pretty odd press releases and solicitations during myjournalistic career, but the one I received in my inbox today, from a publicistfor an opportunistic dentist, was a doozy.

I really don't want togive this dentist free publicity (the PR person asked me if I wanted to interviewthe dentist; I passed), so I've chosen to respectfully blur out the culprit's name. ButI can't resist sharing. Below is an actual letter sent to "AmericanIdol" frontrunner Crystal Bowersox this week. To my knowledge, Crystal has not yet responded.

Wow. Thatbites, indeed. I don't necessarily fault the dentist for offering free services, especially since this dentist claims to be a fan. But I question the dentist's altruistic motives because the DDS went public with this letter--even hiring a publicist to solicit "Idol"-related interviews--instead of just sending Crystal a private letter and waiting for a response. If this dentist's sole intention was to help Crystal, then such a press release

  • New Adam Lambert Song Rocks. Hard.

In thelatest U.S. single from his debut album, ForYour Entertainment, Adam Lambert somewhat rhetorically asks listeners what they wantfrom him. And it's a fair question. Coming out of a mainstream TV show like "American Idol," he's been faced with theunique challenge, as all Idols ultimately are, of trying to appeal to everyone--the pop fans, the rock fans, the Middle Americans, the Europeans, the tweens, the grandmas, thecritics, the record buyers, the editors of Outand the editors of Rolling Stone. Andconsidering how polarizing Adam was on "Idol"--for every viewer wholoved, say, his radical "Ring of Fire" remake, there was some hater outthere eager to bash him--this was a battle he could never truly win. He couldn'tplease all the people all the time.

Well...maybe nowhe can. An epic new Claude Kelly/GregWells-penned bonus track on the U.K.version of FYE, the majesticallyangsty power ballad "Can't Let You Go," just leaked, and it's afantastically glittery distillation of all thingsAdam.

  • ‘Idol’ Shania Night: Man! They Feel Like Some Women

When Shania Twain was a guest judge earlier this season, Iwasn't all that enthused. All I really remember now of her Chicago episode was her shameless flirtingwith handsome future semifinalist John Park, whom she told had a "nicebottom end." (Can't say I blame the woman--John Park was a looker--butstill.) However, many comments on that night's blog post disagreed with me,all raving about Shania's star turn and some even rallying for her to be SimonCowell's replacement. So I decided to give her another chance when she returnedthis week as the celebrity mentor for, fittingly, Shania Twain Night. Thistime, she did impress me much--eventhough the most indelible impression she made all evening long was when sheengaged in a congratulatory embrace with John Park's fellow Season 9 hunk, Casey James.

Congratulations were in order for Casey, one of the evening's standouts, because Shania Night was no easy challenge. Despite Season 9being touted as a "girls' season," that has not turned out to be

  • Scott MacIntyre: The Reality Rocks Interview, Pt. 2

WATCH PART 1 OF SCOTT MACINTYRE'S INTERVIEW HERE

In the second installment of Reality Rocks' two-part interview with Scott MacIntyre--in celebration of the recent release of his new album, Heartstrings--the Season 8 "American Idol" finalist is surprisingly frank, discussing his reunion with his onetime "nemesis" Simon Cowell; how Season 9 of "Idol" kind of pales in comparison to his big watershed season; his advice for this year's crop of "identity crisis"-stricken contestants; his two favorite finalists this "AI" season; and his opinions on the music of his Season 8 castmates.

  • That’s Not So Raven! ‘RuPaul’ Finale Is A Drag

Last night Logo aired the final she-male showdown of "RuPaul's Drag Race 2," aka The Best Show On Television. But this certainly was not the best finale on television. The competition came down to Tyra Sanchez, Jujubee, and my personal favorite and the show's seeming frontrunner, the fabulous Raven--and Raven placed second, inexplicably and surprisingly losing out to Tyra.

Sure, Tyra may have technically been the prettiest of the three finalists--she served the best "fish," to use a handy RuPaul catchphrase I learned this season. But I feel Raven really took drag seriously and best demonstrated what an artform it can truly be.

Raven, when out of drag, possessed the most traditionally masculine features and exhibited the most dude-like personality (the other two were classic pretty-boys, already blessed with naturally pouty lips and sculpted cheekbones that needed little cosmetic contouring). Yet Raven, when in character, was miraculously transformed, virtually unrecognizable from her

  • Scott MacIntyre: The Reality Rocks Interview, Pt. 1

Scott MacIntyre may best be known to casual TV viewers as "the first blind guy on 'American Idol'" (those are his joking words), but there is so much more to him than that. With a long history of classical training, musical scholarships, and independent recordings in both the classical and pop genres, the gifted 24-year-old pianist and former child prodigy should be famous for more than just Ryan Seacrest's ill-advised high-five or those notorious pink pants.

Scott just self-released his seventh (yes, SEVENTH) solo album, the surprisingly and pleasingly powerpoppy Heartstrings--in the process joining his Season 8 castmates (Anoop Desai, Megan Joy, Matt Giraud) who are becoming indie posterchildren, as they wisely take their post-"Idol" careers into their own capable hands. Scott recently stopped by Yahoo! HQ to chat about the new disc, as well as about being fiercely independent, life after "Idol," and returning to the "Idol" stage in Season 9. And he certianly had a lot to say. See

  • ‘American Idol’ Fantasy Theme: Hall & Oates Night

I've been mostly disappointed by the weeklythemes during this season of "American Idol," so I've been coming up with fantasy concepts for imaginary"Idol" episodes. So far I've suggested Goth Night, Hair Metal Night, Bowie Night, and Stoner Rock Night, and this week, I'm suggesting that the "Idol" finalists make my dreams come true and sing the songs of Hall & Oates. I can go for that!

    THEME: Hall & Oates Night
My love of Hall & Oates has been well-documented on Yahoo! throughout the years, but now it seems the whole world is catching up with me and a full-scale Hall & Oates revival is in full effect. The Gym Class Heroes named one of their treks the "Daryl Hall For President Tour"; Daryl Hall gets artists like KT Tunstall, Chromeo, Diane Birch, and the Gym Class Heroes' Travis McCoy to guest on his online music/talk show, "Live From Daryl's House," and will be performing at Bonnaroo with Chromeo this summer; hipster acts like Daft Punk, Zoot Woman, and Phoenix definitely owe a sonic
