  • Brian Dunkleman Weighs In

Much ado has been made (and sometimes made by me) about the American Idol producers' manipulative and sometimes downright cruel treatment of its contestants. And from duping Michael Johns into thinking he still had a shot during Idol Gives Back week to forcing David Archuleta to guess who was in the bottom three last week, this season has been no exception when it comes to such ratings-grabbing nastiness.

Well, this week on Celebrity Fit Club, season 1 Idol co-host/footnote Brian Dunkleman claimed that it was precisely this harsh treatment of the finalists that made him quit the show. Yes, that's right--he says he quit, that he was not fired.

Of course, the way Brian's former partner Ryan Seacrest psyched out Michael Johns recently is still nothing compared to how Celebrity Fit Club agitator Dustin Diamond tormented former Idol contestant (and rumored Harvey Walden IV gal pal) Kimberley Locke on Celebrity Fit Club last season. But if such treatment really is the reason why Brian

  • COACHELLA ’08: Pixies’ Dust Still Settling

Coachella is three days away now, which means we're three days away from seeing Kim Deal reclaim the main stage, like she did when her former band the Pixies played what is still the most-anticipated and most-hyped Coachella renion ever.

Sure, punters are excited about seeing Kim and her reunited Breeders get the old "Cannonball" rolling again at this year's festival (after all, Kim's so cool, the Dandy Warhols wrote a song about her). But it's Kim's 2004 appearance with Pixies bandmates Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering that will undoubtedly go down in Coachella history.

So check out this classic clip from the Pixies' Coachella reunion below. It's the real Deal.

By the way...Coachella tickets are still available! But they're hot (literally) and going fast. Get them at http://coachella.com/tickets.

And check out the live webcast and highlights after the show exclusively in the AT&T blue room April 25-27. For more info on Coachella, click here for their official

  • Miss Rap Supreme Update: Khia Disqualified

As one astute reader posted on the message board for my previous Miss Rap Supreme blog, when already-established hip-hop artist Khia competed against unknown "Femme C's" on the show's season premiere last week, her supposedly spontaneously penned 16-bar rhyme sounded naggingly familiar.

Guess it sounded familiar to the show's host, MC Serch, too. See, he did a little research, confirmed that Khia's rap was indeed lilfted from her previous recording "Respect Me"...and, well, he lost all respect for Khia right then and there. Serch immediately disqualified Khia.

Click HERE to check out a clip of Serch telling Khia to pack her bags and get her neck, her back, and the rest of her body parts out of Miss Rap Supreme's Fembassy Hotel.

In the words of MC Serch...STEP OFF!!

  • COACHELLA ’08: The Countdown Continues

California's Coachella Festival is now only four days away...which means we're only four days away from seeing Jack White and his rowdy Raconteurs (the indie-allstar supergroup featuring Jack, Brendan Benson, and the rhythm section from garage-rock trio the Greenhornes) bring a little bit of Detroit to the desert.

However, back in 2003 Jack played Coachella with his other project: a little duo you may have heard of called the White Stripes. And it was amazing how much glorious noise just two people were able to bash out that night. Seriously, Jack and his ex-wife/sister Meg White completely commanded the Main Stage with their bare-bones, guitar-and-drums lineup...even more so than the 20-plus-member Polyphonic Spree, fearsome fellow Detroit-punks Iggy & The Stooges, or Vegas-glitzy electro-art-rock collective Fischerspooner, all of whom also performed at Coachella that year. This was indeed a star-making performance that, against all odds, elevated the Stripes from indie darlings to

  • In Memory Of Tom Moore, The REAL Rock Of Love

The Rock Of Love 2 cast reunion special aired tonight on VH1, and it included a lovely tribute to rock dad Tom Moore (father of third-place bachelorette Destiney), who passed away from liver cancer two weeks before the reunion show was taped.

Destiney watched the segment onstage with tears in her heavily masacar'd eyes, surrounded by her supportive fellow former finalists. It was a truly sweet moment. Who knew a show featuring buxom blonde metal groupies catfighting, binge drinking, and pole-dancing could be so dang touching?

So in honor of tonight's reunion special, I decided to re-run this Tom Moore blog, which I originally published on April 6, the day that Rock Of Love 2's parental-visitation episode first aired.

Anyone wishing to make a charitable contribution in Tom's memory can go to http://liverfoundation.org/donate or call 1-800-223-0179 x126.

This weekend, party girl and accused rock groupie Destiney Moore was cut from Rock Of Love 2

  • COACHELLA ’08: The Countdown Kicks Off

The Coachella Festival kicks off a week from today, upon the scorched earth of California's Indio desert--meaning we're already starting to pack our economy-sized bottles of SPF 70 sunblock, baby wipes, portable battery-operated misting fans, sun umbrellas, earplugs, glowsticks, and travel packs of RU-21.

After all, one can never be too prepared when it comes to this rock 'n' roll endurance test, which is now a three-day lost weekend of bands, bands, bands.

However, the best way to prepare for Coachella is to reflect on some of the fest's best performances over the last nine sunstroked years. And 2004 is perhaps THE best year to begin. First, 2004 was the year of the much-ballyhooed reunion by Pixies (whose Kim Deal, pictured above, returns to Coachella this year with her own reunited Breeders). This reunion launched a noble Coachella tradition in which everyone from the Jesus & Mary Chain to Gang Of Four to this year's Verve have gotten their act back together at the festival.

  • Good News For Kelly Clarkson? Clive Davis No Longer Head Of BMG

THIS JUST IN: Clive Davis--the man largely responsible for launching, ruining, and almost ruining the careers of Carrie Underwood, Bo Bice, and Kelly Clarkson, respectively--has been dethroned as chairman and CEO of BMG.

Here's the report, hot off the AP wire:

    ----------------------------------------------------

Clive Davis replaced by Barry Weiss as BMG head

    04/17/2008 6:00 PM, AP

    Nekesa Mumbi Moody

Legendary music executive Clive Davis has been replaced by Barry Weiss as chairman and chief executive officer of the BMG label group.

Parent company Sony BMG announced the move Thursday. The 74-year-old Davis will become chief creative officer of Sony BMG. Two other BMG executives also departed in the label shakeup.

The 49-year-old Weiss oversaw several labels as president and CEO of the Zomba Label Group. He helped grow Jive Records from a small imprint to a major force with such blockbuster acts as Britney Spears, Usher, the Backstreet Boys, Justin Timberlake and 'N Sync. Recent

  • April 14-21: News So Exciting, We Can Barely Restrain Ourselves!

Another week, another restraining order. Yep, the last seven days have generated all sorts of disorder-in-the-court headlines, so let's get to it before the celebrities in question slap a restraining order on That's Really Week to stop all our smack-talkin'...

First, the temporary restraining order against Britney Spears's disreputable former (mis)manager, Sam Lutfi is still in place, until at least July 31--which is undoubtedly good news for Brit, who recently reunited with her ex-Svengali Larry Rudolph, the man who oversaw her rise to megafame in her B.F. (Before Federline) years. See, when Larry's not serving as a judge on the MTV talent show Rock The Cradle, he's apparently doing a decent job spearheading Spears's long-awaited, long-delayed "comeback." Along with securing her a plum guest-starring role on How I Met Your Mother a few weeks ago, Larry nudged Britney back in to the recording studio this week, and got her training with vocal-coach-to-the-stars Ron Anderson (a man who's

  • Idol Elimination Night: One Less Cook In The Kitchen

It was down to the lucky seven tonight...except one of them was about to get a lot less lucky. Still reeling from the unexpected elimination of Australian sensation Michael Johns (and from the super-uncool way in which Ryan Seacrest gave Michael the boot), the remaining finalists stood in the wings, waiting to find out which among them would go down under this week.

Obviously a guy who loves to toy with people's delicate emotions, judging from his mean-spirited fakeout with Michael last week, tonight Ryan broke out his old divide-and-conquer routine. Remember that time in season 3, that infamous night when he split the finalists into safe and unsafe groups, and shockingly the bottom-three group consisted of Fantasia, LaToya London, and Jennifer Hudson? And then he put poor George Huff on the spot by making him guess which group he belonged to? Well, Ryan was up to his old tricks this evening, making some contestants stand to his right and others to his left, but not letting on which

  • Idol Top 7: Mariah, The Mentor

There have been some pretty major mentors on American Idol over the years: Stevie Wonder, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, and Burt Bacharach, just to name a few. But there's never been a bigger superstar mentor than the ultimate diva and Randy Jackson's BFF, Mariah Carey...who uncoincidentally is releasing her new album, E=MC2, this week. Ryan described the woman as "unstoppable," and while that's not entirely true--that Glitter fiasco stopped her pretty good, for a while--she is no doubt a positive role model for anyone who's had to overcome adversity. Because being in the bottom three ain't nothing compared to what this lady's been through.

But anyway, as I mentioned in my previous blog about this season's mentors, usually when an Idol contestant tackles a Mariah song, it proves to be a very, very bad decision. Because the finalist is inevitably--and almost always unfavorably--compared to Mariah. So the finalists seemed set up for failure tonight--and naturally, I steeled myself for
