pharrellwilliamsPharrell Williams this week becomes the first artist in the rock era to have a featured credit on both of the week’s top two songs. Eleven previous artists have had the top two the same week, but in each case, they were the lead artist on at least one of those hits. Williams is a guest on both songs: Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky.”
Here’s a list of those artists, in chronological order: Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Bee Gees, Ashanti (one lead, one featured), Nelly, OutKast, 50 Cent (one lead, one featured), Mariah Carey, Akon (one lead, one featured), T.I. and the Black Eyed Peas.
Williams, 40, is a three-time Grammy winner. In February 2004, he and his creative partner Chad Hugo (known collectively as the Neptunes) won two Grammys: Producer of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Justin Timberlake’s debut, Justified, which they produced. Three years later, Williams and Ludacris shared the award for Best Rap Song for co-writing their hit collabo “Money Maker,” which reached #1 on both the pop and R&B charts.
