  • 5 Things That Made Us :), :/, and :( at Coachella 2013 Friday, Weekend 2

Jurassic 5 [Photo by Debi Del Grande]For the second year in a row, Coachella throws us for a Groundhog's Day loop, giving festival-goers the (almost) identical lineup from last weekend's severely wind-swept music extravaganza. Weekend 2 has historically brought much less in "wow" factor than Weekend 1 with it's clear lack of star-studded surprise guests, but I like to consider the second weekend to be the main show to last weekend's warm-up!

The usual highlights went to the same winners as last Friday -- Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Blur, Johnny Marr -- but this week we were able to catch exceptional sets from a hypnotizing Tegan and Sara, a well-needed hip-hop break from Jurassic 5, and even the Stone Roses (despite their slot switcheroo) performed better than their poorly attended headlining set last Friday.

But let's get into the granular moments of Coachella Weekend 2, Friday with some fun highlights, awkward moments, and "I'm outta here" times!

  • 5 Tips for Crashing Coachella Parties

Lacoste's annual Coachella pool party [Photo: John Sciulli/WireImage]

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for like, five minutes. Give a man some art supplies and a false sense of entitlement and he'll be drinking for free all Coachella long.

If you're one of the many people who didn't rush to drain a bank account for Coachella tickets this year, you're in luck. The next best thing (or for many reasons, even better) is the plethora of free, celeb-packed satellite parties happening around the California desert. Sadly, not everyone is on one of the tightly guarded lists, or is a perennial party It-Girl who passes through bouncers like a ghost through fog. But this year we're risking our necks and spilling some tricks of the party-crashing trade. By no means are these all the tips you need, or a guaranteed entry, but it's a good starting off point. Use your street smarts; you can thank us later.

NOTE: Revealing secrets automatically puts an expiration date on them, so be sure to use them as soon as you can!

    Here's some tried-and-true guerrilla party

  • Wedding bells are ringing for rock power couple Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger -- at some point. Lavigne sat down with the true "Queen of All Media" Ryan Seacrest, on KIIS FM's On Air With Ryan Seacrest to chat about their upcoming nuptials and how the adorable proposal went down. But the actual date of the wedding stayed a close kept secret.

Dragged into the interview from the spectator's corner, all Kroeger could say about the big day was, "I can’t tell you [the date] but we’re planning it.” Chad joked, “every man knows we get very little participation in the wedding, and these are goods things. Or else Steel Panther ends up playing.” Considering the oh-so-romantic Steel Panther song that Kroeger was featured on is called "It Won't Suck Itself", it's probably for the best.

  • Blake Shelton Talks Tabloids, ACMs and Beauty Pageant Days!

Before country singer Blake Shelton became a chart-topping superstar and TV judge, Shelton took any chance he could get to perform on stage. One of those chances? A Valentine's Day-themed beauty pageant in 1985 when he was just 8 or 9 years old! Cue the awwwws.

The eager mini Shelton bounced around the stage like a little Elvis singing Bob Seger's "Old Time Rock and Roll" as the audience clapped along.

In an interview, Shelton told CBS This Morning's Gayle King, "Because I wanted to be a singer, that was a chance for me to be in the talent portion and sing. There was a spotlight hitting me and it was just this thing that happened when I was a kid and never got over it."

  • Italo disco legend Giorgio Moroder revealed some interesting tidbits when he sat down with Vice's Creator's Project recently to talk about his part in Daft Punk's upcoming album Random Access Memories. The dancefloor luminary talks about the heyday of disco music, how a horrible bassline remains in Donna Summer's disco-defining hit "I Feel Love", and how the robots are adding a "human touch" to today's dance music.

Let's take a step back for a second. When I think about Daft Punk finally coming out with a new album, I can't help but tear up a little bit. They truly turn my black leather heart into some glowing orb of life force and uncontrollable revelry.

  • Lana Del Rey Covers Leonard Cohen’s “Chelsea Hotel No. 2″ in New Video

Lana Del Rey's announcement tweet says it all about her freshly released video for her cover of Leonard Cohen's song "Chelsea Hoten No. 2". Simply, "new video".

Seated in a dimly lit room, the chanteuse exhales the lyrics from deeply lined lips with the same intimate sotto voce as the man who wrote them. As her biggest influence, Del Rey in general heavily emulates Cohen's current smoky, trembling singing voice. But her tremble likely comes from a lack of training, while his from a long, profound life.

The beautifully drifting cover fits rather nicely into Del Rey's continual effort to spin an image of tragic glamor. Released on his 1974 album New Sin for the Old Ceremony, the song recounts a sexual encounter of Cohen's while living at the legendary Hotel Chelsea. He revealed the encounter to be with fellow resident Janis Joplin -- a reveal that he later came to deeply regret.

The 129-year-old New York hotel is famous for its storied inhabitants from the 60s and 70s, playing home to

  • Imagine Dragons have traded puppets for far more nefarious creatures: "Souls". We've got the first exclusive look at the latest trailer for Stephanie Meyer's "The Host" that's set to the sounds of Imagine Dragons' previously unreleased track "Radioactive (The Dirty Tees Remix)"!

Stephanie Meyer, author of the Twilight sagas, has her latest otherworldly romance come to life with the film adaptation of her book "The Host", wherein rather chic and unscrupulous aliens called Souls have taken over the human race. The trailer intersperses unseen footage from the band's music video for the studio cut of "Radioactive" with some breath-halting clips from the upcoming film starring Saoirse Ronan, Max Irons, and Jake Abel. The Dragons are trapped in a dust-ridden underground prison while "The Host" villains cruise around in completely chromed out sports cars (that, no lie, I've seen on the streets of Miami), but the Dirty Tees raise the kings of "epic" to the next level with its futuristic

Frances Bean Cobain is truly her father's daughter. The 20-year-old scion of Nirvana frontman and grunge idol Kurt Cobain channeled her father when she was out about in Los Angeles last week with disheveled pink hair and round retro shades. Although her father died when she was just a baby, Frances Cobain's likeness to Kurt both in looks and taste is undeniable.
