  • Ladies and gentlemen, the United States of Sound is holding court as judge, jury and executioner of rock. We've got the exclusive on Soundgarden's next single off their first album since 1996's Down on the Upside! Check out our interview with lead man Chris Cornell and drummer Matt Cameron to hear what we can expect from their upcoming album and what they've been up to the past 16 years.

A song for rock purists, "Non-State Actor" shows a tight, refreshed Soundgarden well-evolved from the previous millennium's incarnation, and just heavy enough to satisfy hardcore fans. But it's just a taste of what sonic acquisitions band members have gleaned over the many years since breaking up.

Lyrically, the track couldn't be more timely with the presidential elections coming next week. Cornell sings, "We're not elected / But we will speak / We're not the chosen / But we believe / And we settle for / A little bit more than everything." After 16 years of silence, the band isn't wasting a word,

  • Diamond Rings Shines Bright With Exclusive Acoustic Set

Lipstick on a dude has never looked so badass. Canadian electro-pop artist John O'Regan, known as Diamond Rings, came by Y! Music to acoustically showcase some shining tracks off his second studio album, Free Dimensional.

Hailing from Toronto, O'Regan ran with bands that played Casio-pop to post-punk before breaking out with his own project. Diamond Rings melds elements of pop, rock, electro, indie and punk with deep, sinister vocals that can be as earnest as they are evil. Diamond Rings is yet to translate his position as music blogger darling to charting musician, but with similar upcoming artists like Grimes and Charlie XCX making huge waves, O'Regan is sure to be part of that tide.

With a range that can crank out dance floor jams to stage-diving anthems, paired with a high-concept sense of fashion and model-good looks (in person, he's seriously china doll flawless), O'Regan will soon prove to listeners that a diamond is forever.

It's that time of year again. • [Photo: Ron Tom/ABC via Getty Images]LeAnn Rimes is out of treatment, refreshed and starting over. After voluntarily checking herself into a month-long, treatment program for "anxiety and stress", the singer is ready to put the past behind her.

In a tear-filled interview with Katie Couric, 30-year-old Rimes said, "People look at you and go why are you struggling? …No one can quite understand why you hurt so badly."

A child country sensation-turned-crossover pop star, Rimes has been in the public eye for most of her life--and it ultimately affected her sense of identity. She confessed to Couric, "I was this big voice, this little girl that, you know, no one really knew much about. I couldn't really grow up even understanding who it really was that I was."

As an adult, Rimes has been subjected to heavy tabloid coverage in recent years. Her personal life hit headlines when the singer and actor Eddie Cibrian began a relationship while they were both

  • Lana Del Rey has debuted her most involved video project yet with her chopper-happy, desert dreamscape, escapist music video for "Ride". Billed as a short film, the oft-debated singer screened the 10-minute video at a small independent theater inundated with hundreds of fans in Santa Monica, CA this week prior to premiering on Vevo.

Treating fans to the sneak peek, a casually-dressed Del Rey and director Anthony Mandler (who also did "National Anthem") appeared at the screening and held probably the most enthusiastic Q&A session I've ever seen in my life. Fielding questions from the excited teen audience like, "Will you go to prom with me?", "Can I get a photo with you?" and "Would you date someone like me?", the flabbergasted singer eventually discussed the influence behind the song and video, joking it was about her roots of "riding motorcycles and men."

Unlike her usual glamorous self, we see Lana Del Rey being more Lizzy Grant stylistically, traded in her classic Hollywood gowns

As someone who attended FreeFest in 2010, the event is like a smaller Coachella set amongst nice shady trees in Columbia, Maryland, far from the excruciating desert sun and exorbitant ticket prices--it is actually completely free! But lucky for myself and others who cannot attend for various reasons, the

  • Christina Aguilera Debuts Her Nude ‘Lotus’ Album Cover Art

Christina Aguilera's album art for 'Lotus'

Like The Birth of Venus, Christina Aguilera looks like a pop star reborn in the freshly revealed cover art for her upcoming album, Lotus--"revealed" being the operative term. "The Voice" judge seems to be cleansing herself of her overtly raunchy "Xtina" persona with a new record, a sexy new bod and a heavenly, very strategically placed light.

  • Slowdive and Mojave 3 alum Neil Halstead is back with his third solo album of introspective folk music that leads the listener to become suspended in the moment. A fusion of 60s British folk with flourishes of American country, Halsteads music shies away from effects pedal-tapping soundscapes of Mojave 3 while still retaining the spirit of their music.

Halstead told Y! Music that when he first went solo, he found himself in some unfamiliar territory when people would approach him with a guitar and a wide-eyed request to play something. Having relied on electronic components for so long in Mojave 3, Halstead focused his solo efforts on being as lo-fi as possible. And it worked: The man hardly needs more than his voice, an acoustic guitar and a listener to be as affective and moving as a full orchestra.

I can't think of anything cooler than having Vince Neil of Motley Crüe sing on stage with your middle/high school band... if this were 1984. BUT in 2012,  it's still touching the rock star stratos to have the heavy metal mainstay sing one of his biggest hits with you and invite on stage a certain kind of lady your parents impose internet content blockers for.
