  • Gwyneth Paltrow To Perform Live At CMA Awards

For a New York- and Los Angeles-bred actress who barely ever seems to have stepped foot in a red state over the course of her career, Gwyneth Paltrow is certainly making a fantastic splash in the country music world. This year alone, she's scored the lead role in the upcoming Nashville drama Country Strong, and landed on the country charts singing the title track to the film.

And now, it's just been announced she'll be appearing live--not announcing; actually getting up and performing--at the Country Music Awards in November.

This will be Paltrow's first (natch) appearance at the CMAs, and she'll be doing "Country Strong" (natch again). She'll have Vince Gill joining her on stage for the number, which I'm sure will be a good source of moral support, but I'm also sure this is going to be quite a new and possibly nerve-wracking experience for her.

One thing in her favor--Paltrow will undoubtedly come to the CMAs well-prepared. Like any good Oscar-winning actress, she has already taken

  • Justin Bieber Hearts Nashville!

When Nashville found itself literally under water in early May due to record area flooding, musicians rallied to raise funds and help those in need. And, not just country musicians--pop and rock artists such as Jack White and Ke$ha also donated their time and proceeds to rebuilding Music City. Now, yet another very well-known non-country artist can add his name to the "I Heart Nashville" files.

Teen pop sensation Justin Bieber, who played to a sold-out crowd at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena August 11, announced before his show that he planned to donate $1.06 per ticket sold to flood relief efforts. (The unusual amount was due to his partnership with Nashville's top 40 station i106 to publicize the cause.)

Now, I don't know if you have any preteen girls in your life to illustrate firsthand Bieber's popularity, but I can tell you with fair validity that Bieber was banking on a lotta tickets being sold. And a nice big payout for charity. Needless to say, he got it--according to local

  • Happy Birthday, Alan Jackson!

October 17 is a great day to celebrate country music--'cause it's also the birthday of one of its most enduring, but still fully current stars. An artist who is by all notions a seasoned musical veteran, but who still is making it to the top of the charts; not an easy thing to do after two decades in the business.

Happy 52nd birthday to Alan Jackson!

Jackson, whose debut album came out back in 1990, actually has a real, tangible star to his name now--he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in April. Over the course of his career, he's sold more than 50 million albums. He's also a bona fide songwriter as well as performer, having written the bulk of his material himself.

Jackson says he thinks his amazing success came from a simple motivation--to do better than just "get by" in life. "I grew up with nothing," he explains. "My family were good, hard-working people, and had decent jobs, but they didn't have any money. It was either just be a working man and get by, or take a

  • Swift’s First-Week Album Sales Anticipated To Beat Eminem, Approach 1 Mil

If you haven't figured it out by now--this week is all about Taylor Swift and her new release, Speak Now. The singer has, quite simply, eclipsed superstardom and is poised at megastardom. Here's the latest bit of information to support her developing success at music-world domination.

Industry publication Billboard is forecasting first-week sales of 800-900,000 for Speak Now, and is speculating the album may even hit 1 million.

Okay. Because numbers and sales and all of that can sometimes be a bit abstract to consider, let's put these figures into a bit of perspective. If Swift does hit the lower end of 800k, it means she'll easily skip past 2010's current record for first-week sales--nothing less than multiplatinum rapper Eminem's Recovery, which debuted at No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard 200 with 741,000 copies sold back in June.

For further perspective, her sophomore album, Fearless, sold 592,000 in its first week. Billboard's conservative forecast for Speak Now puts sales at an

  • Inaugural American Country Awards Nominees Announced

Curious about the new country-award show on the block--the American Country Awards, which will debut in Las Vegas December 6? Well, two pieces of news for you: The nominees have just been announced, and you will be able to determine who wins by voting online for your favorites.

That's right; the ACAs are wholly fan-determined, so it's up to you to make the right choices--which artists, singles, albums, and music videos rocked your world over the past 12 months? That said, let's have a look at what and who made the inaugural nominee list.

The leaders of the pack (with seven nods each) are part surprising and part not--Lady Antebellum for the "not" part, being this year's cross-genre sensation and, unshockingly, up for the top title of Artist of the Year.

However, the other top-scorer, Easton Corbin, comes as a interesting breath of fresh air. He's nominated primarily in the several "breakthrough artist" areas, but also was recognized in the overall single and video of the year

  • Trisha Yearwood Gets Cookin’ At Food Festival

What is there not to love about Trisha Yearwood? The gal just seems so refreshingly normal, despite the fact that her life is anything but ordinary (I won't mention her arsenal of career accomplishments...nor whom she is married to). Case in point: Her latest appearance this weekend, which according to the Wall Street Journal did not involve a stadium or a guitar. Rather, a bowl and spoon, as she whipped up a tasty carrot cake for a group of fans at the New York Wine & Food Festival.

Yearwood's no stranger to the kitchen, although she cautioned at the festival, "I'm not a chef. I'm a cook." She's written two cookbooks (including the one pictured here), says she loves Paula Deen, and does lots of kitchen duty while at home in Oklahoma helping to raise her husband's three children.

Still--being, well, rather famous for her other career, she took some time to answer a few music-related questions from the audience. Who is she listening to these days? Miranda Lambert--"She has a great

  • Rimes, Crow, Paisley Headline Country Christmas Special

'Tis the season to be...efficient? Well, that's how it's looking next month for the Country Music Association, which is using the occasion of the annual CMA Awards on November 10 to also squeeze in a taping of a star-studded country Christmas special the very next day.

Santa Claus must consider such practical time management very, very good behavior indeed, for the show is already slated to have a stocking's full of the very best country performers available.

The CMA Country Christmas special, which will be taped in front of a live audience November 11 in Nashville, is set to feature LeAnn Rimes, Sheryl Crow, Brad Paisley, Martina McBride, Little Big Town, Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, and Sugarland. Not a bad Christmas list at all, I'd say.

The artists will reportedly be joined by some of their own family members onstage, and will share their personal holiday traditions and stories with the audience, as well as perform songs "sure to warm your heart." (I'm guessing

  • Taylor Swift Holds Massive Meet-And-Greet At CMA Fest

Remember a little while ago when I posted about Taylor Swift's CMA Music Festival "lucky-13" plan; the one where she pledged to meet with fans for a whopping 13 hours straight on June 13?

Unfortunately, I have to report that she kind of flubbed things a bit.

How so? Well, she didn't manage to stick to her plan. Nope, she didn't do 13 hours.

Ha--gotcha, didn't I? You all know Taylor better than that. Sure, it's true that she didn't do 13 hours--but that's just because she actually went two hours overtime and completed a 15-hour meet-and-greet instead.

Talk about a gal who really loves her fans!

The singer's meet-and-greet event, held at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena, attracted more than 10,000 people--around 2,000 of which scored wristbands to get in line and actually meet Swift. (Fans could obtain wristbands in a variety of ways, including text-to-win mobile-phone contests, sponsor giveaways, and random selection by a wandering "fun team.")

Swift, who started greeting fans at 8

  • McGraw And Paltrow Duet On Chris Martin-Penned Track For ‘Country Strong’

A little while back, here in the Our Country space, we brought you the surprising news that Gwyneth Paltrow is not half-bad as a country singer. Now, you'll get your chance to hear the Oscar-winning actress's vocals put to the real test--up against a duet with a serious country heavyweight.

Paltrow, who will appear in the movie Country Strong portraying a washed-up Nashville star, has recorded a track for the film with her co-star, Tim McGraw. The tune, called "Me And Tennessee," was written by Paltrow's husband, Chris Martin.

Despite the fact that Martin's own band, Coldplay, is distinctly non-country, Paltrow tells People that he did a terrific job with the songwriting. "'Me and Tennessee' is a special song that perfectly fits the movie," she notes. "It's about country music bringing people back together when they're having a difficult time in life."

Paltrow, a competent vocalist who first sang onscreen in the 2000 movie Duets, recorded three additional songs for Country Strong

  • Taylor Swift Leads Pack For Billboard’s ’21 Under 21′ List

Music industry bible Billboard magazine has just released its "21 under 21" list--a tally of the hottest minors in music today. The talented kiddos who made the list were picked for their "white-hot winning streaks" as well as "their potential to rule the pop culture zeitgeist over the next 12 months."

I bet you can't guess who was number one? No, really, it's not too hard. You're right. It's Taylor Swift, of course--yet another country artist to forge to the head of an all-genre pack (if you don't remember, I wrote about Tim McGraw being the top-played artist of the decade just last month).

Swift, who will be 21 in December, managed beat out fellow power-playing young'uns Justin Bieber (who landed at No. 2), Selena Gomez (No. 3), Nick Jonas (No. 6), and Miley Cyrus (No. 10); as well as a scad of currently buzzing types such as Will Smith's daughter Willow Smith (No. 7) and Glee's Charice (No. 4) and Chris Colfer (No. 13).

As Billboard put it: "Lots of young stars will be making waves
