Uma Thurman Talks Motherhood at 42: ‘Everything Feels New’

Uma Thurman on January 31 (Splash News)Becoming a mom again after 10 years can be a big adjustment, but it’s one that Uma Thurman was thrilled to make and is certainly embracing.

The 42-year-old actress welcomed her little girl with the big name – Rosalind Arusha Arkadina Altalune Florence Thurman-Busson, who goes by “Luna” – in July, a decade after having her son, Levon, and 14 years after daughter Maya Ray (both with ex-husband Ethan Hawke) was born.

“It’s a joy,” the 42-year-old tells omg! about getting to experience motherhood again with her fiancé, French financier Arpad Busson. But was it at all a difficult transition? “No – it’s very interesting actually. Everything feels new.”

And while Maya Ray is the perfect age to do some babysitting, Thurman – who looked stunning in a little black dress and sandals (though she modestly joked not to look at her from a side angle … though it was perfect as well) – says her older children don’t typically help when it comes to Luna.

“I really don’t ask them to do too much,” she admits, adding, “But they’re wonderful.”

Thurman with baby Luna on January 25 (Splash News)There were definitely babies on the brain when we caught up with Thurman at the Room to Grow gala in Manhattan on Thursday night. She is on the board of the charity – which was started by director Ken Burns’ wife, Julie, a social worker, and strives to better the lives of babies born into poverty – and started working with them when she was pregnant with Maya.

Thurman talked a little bit about that during a speech she delivered at the event, which raised over $500,000.

“I was pregnant with my first child at the time, and when Julie told me about the mission of Room to Grow, it hit me that so many women in New York City were going through this life-changing experience virtually alone, without the means to buy what they needed or even the guidance to know what they needed," she said. "Room to Grow was revolutionary then, and remains utterly unique today.”
