  • 'TM: 103 Hustlerz Ambition'Michael Buble and Adele continue to dominate The Billboard 200, which is about as surprising as the mall being jammed the day after Christmas. But some of you will be surprised to see Young Jeezy debuting at #3 with TM:103 Hustlerz Ambition, ranking ahead of such household names as Justin Bieber and Lady Antebellum. You really shouldn't be. This is Jeezy's fourth consecutive album to debut in the top three, a streak that began in 2005.

This is the second time that Jeezy has released an album right before Christmas. His sophomore album The Inspiration debuted at #1 in the week ending Dec. 17, 2006. You know that line in "Theme From New York, New York," "If I can make it there/I'll make it anywhere"? If an artist can break through with an album right before the holidays, when the chart is studded with superstars, they've really got a following.

  • BeyonceI have bad news for Beyonce fans. This is the first year in which B has failed to crack the top 10 since Destiny's Child exploded in 1998. This stat combines Destiny's Child and solo recordings, as well as featured credits on hits by Jay-Z and Lady Gaga. There are still two weeks left in Nielsen SoundScan's tracking year, but this week corresponds to the Dec. 31 issue of Billboard, so there is no way that Beyonce's name can appear on a top 10 hit in a 2011 issue of Billboard.

Beyonce's best showing of 2011 came in August, when the stinging, kiss-off ballad "Best Thing I Never Had" peaked at #16. Her second best showing of the year came in September, when "Love On Top" debuted and peaked at #20.  Third best came in June when "Run The World (Girls)" peaked at #29. In retrospect, the disappointing showing of that feminist anthem foretold what would be an unexpectedly difficult year for Beyonce on the  Hot 100.

  • Michael Buble's Christmas this week becomes the first album in two years to sell 400,000 copies in a week more than once. The album sold 448K copies this week, down just a tick from last week's tally of 479K. The last album to do this was Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream, which topped 400K five weeks in a row in 2009. This week's hefty sales enables Buble's album to move up from #4 to #3 on the year-to-date chart. It's just 66K copies behind the #2 album for the year-to-date, Lady Gaga's Born This Way. With two more weeks left in this chart year, Buble is a lock to finish at #2 for the year, behind Adele's 21. This will be only the second time in Nielsen SoundScan history (which dates to 1991) that foreign-born acts have had both of the year's top two albums. In 1996, the top two albums were Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill and Celine Dion's Falling Into You.

  • Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" has just become the first Christmas song to top the 2 million mark in digital sales. It has sold more digital copies than the next two best-selling Christmas hits combined. They are Trans-Siberian Orchestra's 1996 hit "Christmas Eve (Sarajevo 12/24)" (864K) and the Chipmunks' 1958 novelty smash "The Chipmunk Song" (841K, a tally which combines two different versions).

"All I Want For Christmas Is You" has been a holiday perennial since its release in 1994 on Carey's Merry Christmas album. It has also been covered by other artists. It is featured on three albums in this week's top 20: Michael Buble's Christmas, Justin Bieber's Under The Mistletoe and Glee: The Music: The Christmas Album: Volume 2.

  • Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" rolled to a record this year. The song sold more copies than any other song has sold in a calendar year in digital history. To find the last song that has sold as many copies in a calendar year you have to go back to the pre-digital era for Elton John's "Candle In The Wind 1997," his tribute to the late Princess Diana.

Here are the stats: "Rolling In The Deep" sold 5,813,000 copies in 2011. The previous calendar-year sales record in the digital era was set two years ago when the Black Eyed Peas' "Boom Boom Pow" sold 4,762,000 copies. "Candle In The Wind 1997" sold 8,011,000 physical copies in 1997, though the rush of emotion connected to Diana's death, and the charity aspect of the single (proceeds went to the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund), make it an extraordinary case.

  • I managed to get hold of Santa's list and I'm here to tell you who has been naughty and nice this year. Michael Buble, The Black Keys and Andrea Bocelli have apparently been very nice, judging by their rewards on this week's chart. Buble's Christmas sold 479K copies this week, which is the largest tally for a non-debuting album since Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream sold 510K in its fifth week two years ago. The Black Keys' El Camino sold 206K, nearly three times as many as the 73K that the duo's previous album, Brothers, sold in its first week. And Bocelli has two albums scaling this week's top 20, his current Concerto: Live In Central Park and his 2009 album My Christmas.

  • Katy Perry's "The One That Got Away" holds at #9 on the Hot 100. Its airplay grew by 17%, but its digital sales dropped by 31%. So you might think it's probably out of the running to become a record-breaking sixth #1 single from Perry's Teenage Dream album. Think again. The song has been discounted to 69 cents in the iTunes Store, compared to $1.29 for most current hits.

But, you might be thinking, didn't Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan recently move to crack down on deep discounts in the wake of the controversial 99-cent promotion on Lady Gaga's album Born This Way? They did, but the discount on Perry's song isn't deep enough to be affected. Billboard and Nielsen SoundScan count all digital tracks provided they are priced at 39 cents or higher during their first three months of release.

  • Adele's DVD Live At The Royal Albert Hall sold 96,000 copies this week, which is the greatest one-week sales tally for a music video in four years. After just one week, Live At The Royal Albert Hall is the best-selling music video of 2011. It is followed by AC/DC's Live At River Plate (73K), Beyonce's I Am…World Tour (63K) and a 25th anniversary concert presentation of Les Miserables (63K). Adele is now assured of having the year's #1 album (21), #1 song ("Rolling In The Deep") and #1 music video.

No other artist in Nielsen SoundScan history has ever topped all three of these year-end charts. *NSYNC and 50 Cent each had the year's #1 album and #1 music video, but fell short on the list of the year's best-selling singles. The boy band scored in 2000 with the album No Strings Attached and the music video Live At Madison Square Garden. 50 Cent triumphed in 2003 with the album Get Rich Or Die Tryin' and the music video The New Breed.

  • Rihanna has achieved many milestones on the pop charts in recent years. She has amassed 11 #1 hits, a tally matched by only seven other artists since 1955. But she holds one record that I guarantee you she would like to shed. She has had more #1 hits, by far, than any other artist who has never topped The Billboard 200. It's not like she hasn't come close: Rihanna's last five albums have made the top five. Her highest-charting album, Good Girl Gone Bad, peaked at #2 in 2007. Her new Talk That Talk debuts at #3 this week, matching the peak of her 2010 album, Loud. It's just that she can't quite seem to make it to #1.

  • Michael Buble's Christmas steps up to #1 on The Billboard 200, with sales of 227K copies. But if his album had sold just 500 fewer copies, Nickelback's Here And Now would have come out on top. It was the closest race for #1 in more than four years. The last time such a small margin separated the top two albums was in October 2007, when Bruce Springsteen's Magic returned to the top spot, unseating Kid Rock's Rock N Roll Jesus. Both albums sold just over 77K copies that week. They were separated by fewer than 250 copies.

Nickelback can take some consolation in that they are contributing to a record-setting week for Canadian acts. For the first time in chart history, Canadian acts hold down four of the top six spots on The Billboard 200. Buble and Nickelback are followed by Drake's Take Care, which drops from #1 to #4 in its second week; and Justin Bieber's Under The Mistletoe, which dips from #5 to #6 in its fourth week.
