The Montreal-based combo -- they're a septet -- are one of the most critically-acclaimed groups in recent memory. They won last year's Grammy for Album of the Year. They've also won BRIT, Juno and NME awards, and more. We were gonna call Dave DiMartino for an incisive critical comment, but he's probably watching a Blaxploitation flick or something.
He does that, you know.
Our video, "The Suburbs," is from their #1 album of the same name. According to our old friend, Wikipedia, the album was "universally acclaimed," and it appeared on just about every album of the year list out there. The video is quirky, to say, the least: directed by Spike Jonze, it starts out harmlessly enough, with kids riding their bikes in a bland suburban setting. Then, heavily-armed soldiers appear and, eventually, all sorts of mayhem breaks out.
The Arcaders appear -- as cop/authority figures, no less -- but the overall message seems to be that the suburbs aren't exactly the nicest place in the world.
What do you think, readers? Do the suburbs suck? Or are they, in fact, a wonderful refuge from the insanity that is the modern world? Your votes will settle it once and for all!
1 -- "We graduate to mopeds, see? And then we get to intern. And then we get to write captions!"
2 -- Now that everyday objects have thoughts and feelings, runaway bicycles are common!
3 -- "I didn't mean it! You're really fast! Super fast!"
4 -- Baghdad. Come for the fun. Stay because the airport's closed.
5 -- "I still don't see how locking us in 'abstinence school' is supposed to work."
6 -- Ironically, they'd heard Olympus had fallen and that Framed was no longer doing product placement on the same day!
7 -- "Where? To where do the ants want to move that rubber tree plant? Oh, you'll talk!"
8 -- "Purvis, I believe them minority folk are fixin' to register to vote!"
9 -- "What if I couldn't take their order? What then?"
10 -- Some posts are made of indestructible adamantium metal! Not those of our readers, of course.
11 -- "Well, when I grew up there, we just called it Kalamazoo, not the Village of the Damned."
12 -- "Stop, soldiers, stop! We're fighting unfunded, undeclared, illegal wars! And also I have a flat."
