Gosh, readers, 2009 certainly went by fast. In many ways, it was a tumultuous year, loaded with astonishing moments. Michael Jackson died, Adam Lambert didn't win American Idol and Taylor Swift dominated the year-end awards. On top of all that, that articulate guy was inaugurated as our first Muslim president. Yes, '09 was something else, especially right here. Let's take a minute to review Framed's track record in music videos in the year gone by:

Of VH-1's Top 40 Videos of 2009, the only three to appear in Framed were by  Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, and Miley Cyrus.

Of all the VMA nominees--more than 50!--the only ones to appear in Framed   were Eminem's "We Made You," Asher Roth's "I Love College," and Kelly            Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You."

There were something like 38 nominees for CMT Music Video Awards, and we did ourselves proud by overlooking all of 'em except for Taylor Swift's "Love Story."

Our luck ran out with Billboard's Top 10 videos of 2009,

  • Well, we see by our watch that it's just about Christmas time. And, since this is the hap-happiest time of the year, Framed is giving a present to you great readers by featuring not one, but two yuletide videos in our blog this week!

Yes, Virginia, there is a Framed!

Our first guests are Street Drum Corps, a group of punk rock percussionists out of Los Angeles. The Corps are best known for nothing in particular, but have appeared with Linkin Park on their Projekt Revolution tour. Which, as you can imagine, is certainly good enough for us! The punks are bringing their version of the John Lennon classic, "Happy Christmas (War Is Over)," a favorite every year.

Video #2 is the great new Bob Dylan video, "Must Be Santa," off of his new album, Christmas In The Heart. It's absolutely the best music video of the year, not to mention the most manic, and we simply couldn't overlook a video of this caliber.

So please enjoy the musical stylings of Street Drum Corps, let Bob Dylan polka you into

  • Death Cab For Cutie, Framed

Hello, readers, and welcome to Framed, the blog that's sort of like the other blogs, but not really. This week we welcome Death Cab For Cutie, the superb indie band out of beautiful Bellingham, Washington, to our space on the "net."

Death Cab, who took their name from a 1967 song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, are bringing "I Will Possess Your Heart," a tune from their #1 album of last year, Narrow Stairs. The video, which shows the band playing in some sort of freezer, as well as a mopey girl traveling around the world by herself, makes absolutely no sense in any context whatsoever. Fortunately, Framed is here to provide context with our trademarked, professionally-written captions, so no worries!

Please let us know how you feel about the band, the song, the video, and the captions! And please join us in this space again next week when we tackle another great music video, write a bunch of really funny captions, and, in general, make you feel good!

"You pronounce it Boo-blay," is how his promotion went back in 2003, but now everyone knows about Michael Bublé. His last two albums have hit #1 in the U.S. and the British Columbian singer has also dominated the charts in countries like Australia, Italy, the Netherlands and his native Canadia...Framed's favorite country!

    Or should we say "favourite?!"

No matter, we're just glad he's here! Mike's become a big star singing the standards--you know, tunes like "The Way You Look Tonight," "Save The Last Dance For Me," and "It Had Better Be Tonight"--generally with a big band. But he's also written a few of his own hits, like "Home" and "Lost." And that's not even to mention his high-quality pizza crust product!

Our video this week is Mike's "Haven't Met You Yet," released just last month. The feel-good vid shows Bublé meeting a babe at the supermarket and hitting it off with her big time. At the end, though, we realize that it was all just a daydream! Or was it? The babe walks into the

  • Adam Lambert, Framed

Hello to readers from near and far, and welcome to Framed, the music blog that's much more than a music blog! We're glad you came by!

This week, we continue to look ahead to the ninth season of the impossibly great American Idol  by spotlighting another of their also-rans. Last week, it was Jason Castro, and this week it's Adam Lambert, the guy who looked like a shoo-in last year. Even though he lost out to Kris Allen, let us be the first to predict that Adam will have a long and lucrative career!

We're pleased to be featuring Adam's first video, "Time For Miracles," from the new megahit action movie, 2012. The movie appears to be about the end of the world--pencil in December of that year, apocalypse fans!--but the song is all about not giving up on love. We're sure you'll agree that it's quite a showcase for the talented Lambert.

Readers, we welcome your input. Is Adam Lambert the greatest vocal talent that Idol has given us? In fact, shouldn't he have actually won last year? Is it

Nature announces the arrival of autumn with the changing of the leaves, the shortening of the days, and the start of a new TV season. And a new TV season, of course, turns our thoughts to Two And A Half Men, the over-the-top hilarious CBS comedy about men, half-men--centaurs, we assume--and their many adventures.

But beyond that, a new TV season turns our thoughts to American Idol, the nexus of TV and music. Has a TV program ever wielded such influence over the public's taste? We think not! Idol has given us million-selling artists like Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks, and that one country girl whose name we always forget. All were declared winners by you, the viewing public.

We watch every week, of course, and we're equally fascinated by the contestants who don't win, yet go on to equal or exceed the top vote-getters. Like Chris Daughtry, David Archuleta and--everyone's favorite!--Kellie Pickler. This week, as we anxiously await the start of the ninth season, Framed will begin taking a

  • Brad Paisley, Framed

Hello, everyone, and welcome to this, the twelve millionth Framed. Interestingly, this week marks the 1,500th caption to appear in our blog, a mark we're quite proud of. Making the whole thing even more amazing is that 1,412 of those captions have been certified "really quite funny" by the United States government.

    Thank you, United States government!

This week our foil...um, guest!...is country music superstar Brad Paisley, who's bringing his great new song and video, "Welcome To The Future." As well-known futurists, we were pretty darn excited when we heard about this, and you will be, too! Released in June of this year, Paisley's song talks about all the technological advances he's seen over his lifetime, and also the civil rights advances: references to Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King, Jr. are unmistakable.

We say, well done, Mr. Paisley! It's artists like you who make us proud to embrace our Americanness! We invite readers to enjoy this week's video and captions and to post a

  • Belle & Sebastian, Framed

Hello, readers, and welcome to yet another stirring installment of Framed. We're the weekly blog that takes a look at a popular music video and then deconstructs it with laser-like wit, often referencing riveting topical issues, to which we add a dollop of nuthin'-but-fun!

Plus, we have a talking bubble. You're certain to enjoy reading Framed every week!

We want to mention that we read and enjoy all of your posts, so please keep 'em coming. It's our goal to have posts that manifestly rule over the posts at other Y! Music blogs, so please do your part!

Regular readers know we like all sorts of music, and, in real life, we like this week's featured band quite a bit! Our guests are Belle & Sebastian, the great indie pop band out of Scotland, and this week's video is their uplifting "Dirty Dream Number Two," from 1998's The Boy With The Arab Strap album.

An "Arab strap," by the way, is a device that men sometimes use. For more info, guys, please ask your dads.

If you're new to the band,

  • Creed, Framed

Hidey ho, readers, and welcome back to Framed, America's greatest blog. It is here--and only here!--that you'll read captions to still pictures pulled from today's greatest music videos that are so funny that several of you will likely die from excessive laughter in just a few moments.

    Ahem.

Speaking of funny, when we heard that Creed had reformed, we thanked whatever God we pray to and queued up their new video. Oh, we weren't disappointed, and you won't be, either. Frankly, this is something we can treasure collectively as a species. Heck, let's see what Rolling Stone had to say about the event:

"Five years after their highly acrimonious split, Creed are reforming for a new album and an American tour, which kick(ed) off August 6th in Pittsburgh and runs through October 14th. 'I wouldn't call it a reunion,' says singer Scott Stapp. 'It's a renewing and a rebirth. I missed my boys and wanted to create music with them again. We're all thrilled to have a second chance to make a first

  • Blur, Framed

We often revisit the '80s here in Framed, but this week, we'd like to take a fond look back at the very cool 1990s. In addition to hip-hop, one of the big trends back then was Britpop, an alt-rockish subgenre that was spearheaded by Oasis but included Lush, Suede, and many others.

Oasis had one big rival back then: Blur, who were their major foe in the never-to-be-forgotten "Battle of Britpop." Blur declared Modern Life Is Rubbish by naming their album that back in 1993. And this week's video features a song from that album called "Chemical World."

The song is kind of obtuse, but the video is an interesting amalgam of various animals and Blur themselves frolicking about in a field. Sadly, it didn't take down Oasis, who went on to release (What's The Story) Morning Glory and Be Here Now to general acclaim and sales. In the meantime, Blur would go on to break up and reform and so on.

That's the back story, and we're very happy to be featuring "Chemical World" this week. Please let us
