We've had a lotof great stars in Framed, but perhapsnone greater than this week's guests, the Bee Gees. The 'Gees--brothersMaurice, Robin and Barry Gibb--are one of the best-selling bands in history, and true superstars. This week's video, "Stayin' Alive," one of theirbest known songs, is from the monstrous SaturdayNight Fever album, which pretty much defined the disco era of the late'70s.
Readers havegrown accustomed to our expert video analysis, and we'll pull no punches insaying that this video is uniformly dreadful. Despite the greatness of the'Gees, no one had really over thought rock video back in 1977. The idea ofhaving the brothers Gibb stroll through a bombed-out landscape--while certainlycharming!--had absolutely nothing to do with the song itself. In fact, the setfor "Stayin' Alive" was next door to the set where the 'Gees werefilming the even-more-horrible Sgt.Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band movie. To top it off, the primitivepicture quality of the video reminds us why we rarely even use the company timemachine anymore.
Still, the wholething has a certain historical value, and the song remains pretty catchy--itranks #46 on Billboard's list of theTop 100 songs of all time. So hunker down and dig what your parents thought ofas entertainment, and take heart: next week, Britney Spears returns to Framed!
