Framed

Green Day, Framed

Green Day needs no introduction, but we'll provide one anyway. The creativity-crushing contract we signed with Y! Music demands it.

Coming out of the late-'80s punk scene in the Bay Area, Green Day really hit it big with their 1994 album, Dookie, which got to #2 in the U.S. and #1 in various other countries. Although a lot of their hard-core fans thought they'd sold out with the major label release, they followed it up with Insomniac, arguably their best album, and many since, all of them landing in Billboard's Top Ten. Most recently, they've taken their talents to the stage with a successful adaptation of their hit 2004 LP, American Idiot.

Our video this week is from one of their best-known singles, "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)," off of 1997's Nimrod. The video is kind of puzzling in that nothing happens in it. It consists, mostly, of people staring into space. After watching it, we decided it was probably the best idea for a video ever - thus, its featured status in this week's blog.

A perennial favorite of folks at weddings, graduations, and other joyous events, we hope that you'll enjoy this splendid song and the humdrum captions that accompany the still photos. We'll be back here again next week with an even better Framed!

You know, marginally.

1 - "These Kinks songs are surprisingly easy to rewrite."

2 - "What's that, Satan? Broadway?"

3 - "This has gotta be the worst full-body massage yet."

4 - "But what if, rather than simple humor, the captions reflected a profoundly disturbing cognitive dissonance? Then what?"

5 - "Don't worry, Fluffy. We'll face the threat of wind-blown leaves together."

6 - "Why won't the gas pump? Is there some sort of secret instruction involved to which I'm not privy?"

7 - "When I become a ponderous giant, I, too, will 'check out the babes.'"

8 - "I guess with the plastic covering I can understand why they're so dry. But why are they all so clean?"

9 - "I have to make a living, but, oh, how I miss the dancing arts."

10 - "With luck, Gummo will look upon my soapy homage to his people with great favor."

11 - "Wait a minute! Why does Dinah even have a horn? This song is a house of cards."

12 - "Perhaps I could have found the time to listen to him whine."
