Framed

The Cast Of “Glee,” Framed

One of the great things about writing Framed is that we can, if we wish, feature fictitious musicians and treat them as if they were real. Long-time readers will recall that we've had Alvin & the Chipmunks and Heidi Montag in this very space.

In keeping with that tradition, this week we're very happy to welcome the cast of the Fox TV show, Glee. Although Framed has never actually seen Glee--it appears to be a show about kids singing, dancing, and creating the glorious high school memories that will sustain them in their later years--we get the general idea. And we applaud the show and its many thoughtful fans.

Our video this week is "Over The Rainbow," the 1939 Academy Award-winning song from The Wizard of Oz. The song has been performed and recorded infinity times, most recently by Katharine McPhee, who was on American Idol in whatever year. In a perplexing twist, the Glee kids are made preposterously happy by the song... hands are held, shoulders are leaned on, and heads bop merrily. It's all very nice.

So please enjoy the video and our captions, which are, as always, life-affirming and funnier than all get out. We'll try to find a video by real or almost-real musicians for next week. See you then!

1 --  "Let us understand you, teacher. We sit here quietly while words of unknown origin simply float in mid-air?  But wouldn't that be disturbing?"

2 --  At Glee H.S., it's actually not impolite to point out those who would benefit from liposuction!

3 --  "Is that guitar shrinking? Or am I actually growing? There are no frames of reference!"

4 -- "Look! I squished 'Ant Jesus' on my fingertip! Guess the ants are screwed now!"

5 --  "She's supposed to be a teenager? On what planet does this show air?"

6 -- Silently, she wondered if equating the abilities of birds with the wishes of humans was nothing more than simple-minded sophistry. And if the new guy was hot.

7 -- The crush on Winnie Cooper would be suppressed no more!

8 --  Some readers enjoyed "Liberace, Framed" a little more than others!

9 --  "Here's hoping this experimental 'whistling therapy' will cure my very prominent facial cancer."

10 --  "Damn right I'll hit that."

11 --  "With any luck, she'll grow up to sing show tunes!"

12 --  "It's the hammer of justice! It's the bell of freedom! It's the song about relationship, sexuality and social issues in fictional high schools all over this land!"
