Happy Birthday, Michael Bolton! We Celebrate With Music’s Most Iconic Mullets

We know three things for certain about the '90s:

    1. Michael Bolton was the era's quintessential singer

    2. The mullet (the "business in front, party in back" hair style) was the quintessential haircut

    3. One man had the quintessential mullet—you guessed it, Michael Bolton!

So for his birthday 59th birthday on Sunday, February 26, our friends at Snakkle.com found the best musician mullets to pay homage to the "Mullet Maestro" himself, Michael Bolton.

Michael Bolton mullet in 1992 and today: The Grammy winning singer was born with the less mellifluous last name of "Bolotin." But with a name change, a few soft rock ballads under his belt and his infamous mullet hairstyle, Bolton was the man (and mane) that made women swoon in the 90s.

Jon Bon Jovi mullet in 1982 and today: Before Snooki showed off her signature pouf on "Jersey Shore", Jon Bon Jovi had his own version of the go-to Garden State 'do.

Bono mullet in 1985 and today: Bono has been known to be very serious about his charitable work, but in the mid-'80s he might have been even more serious about his amazing head of rocker-chic hair.

Billy Ray Cyrus mullet at The Grammys in 1993 and today: The same year Billy Ray Cyrus fathered this mullet, he became a dad to his little superstar Miley. Seven pounds nine ounces was the birth weight, and we're just talking about her hair!

Lionel Richie mullet in the mid-1990s and today: Lionel Richie's previous hairdo was once, twice, three times a mullet. And we loved it.

I loved my mullet. Very curly in the back and in the day the women loved it,but i knew i kept it a little to long when i was going in to a store one day and 4 girls in a car were yelling "Rock on, Mullet boy". I went straight back to my car and went and got it cut off...lol.

Don't take crap from others...rock your own style. The mullet was cool hair.

Why would you cut your hair like that? Good thing they didn't yell at you to jump off a bridge.

Carol says - OK maybe Jon Bon Jovi's wasn't a mullet, but it doesn't matter. He was hot back then and is super sexy now - he can do whatever to his hair.
      • dan 3 months ago
And when you put on a Bon Jovi record...you can hear Bolton's brainfart.

John Bon Jovi's hair was long, even layers all over. That's not a mullet. That's the classic 80s hair-band 'do. Much nicer than a mullet. Mullets were for guys who wanted to look "cool" but didn't have the courage (or the day job) to just let it all grow wild. In the 80s I kind of like them (did I just admit that??). In the mid-90s, I moved to Wisconsin for a couple years. They were still stuck in the 80s - men and women - mullets and poofed-up bangs everywhere you turned. It was surreal. (Cue Twilight Zone music). I'm not kidding. I often wonder if it's still like that there.

How can you claim to celebrate "Music's Iconic Mullets" without David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust, which as far as I know is where it all started?
    • Lindsey  •  Chicago, Illinois  •  3 months ago
Jon Bon Jovi and Lionel Richie didn't have mullets. And where's Richard Marx?
    • Captain Obvious  •  Houston, Texas  •  3 months ago
What about John Stamos? I suppose he wasn't technically a "musician" but he had the women wanting to fondle his mullet.

    • Shane  •  Missoula, Montana  •  3 months ago
Most of these guys didn't even have mullets. Bolton just had long hair and was bald in front. Lionel Richie wasn't even close to a mullet. Bon Jovi had feathered 70s hair not a mullet. Whoever wrote this is a total idiot. Of course they said Michael Bolton was the 90s quintessential singer so that pretty much proves it.

What do they call that thing under Billy Ray's bottom lip? It looks like part of his lunch stuck there.
