Aside from the triumphs some hip-hop artists experienced in 2011, others were met with horrible fates. Heavy D, Nate Dogg, and Amy Winehouse are just three of the celebrated artists who died last year.

The Aftermath pays its respects, reflecting on the impact each made during their careers.

This is an honor we dub the Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" Award, named after the DJ-MC duo's 1992 hit that paid homage to Troy "Trouble T-Roy" Dixon, ironically a member of Heavy D & The Boyz.
