  • Eminem figured out how to make folks in L.A. stop talking about Sunday's MTV MovieAwards stunt that left him the butt of a bad Sasha Cohen Bruno joke.

The controversial rapper whose album Relapse debuted at No. 1 last week, selling more than 600,000copies, joined fellow superstar Jay-Z to perform a secret show to promote theirmusical contributions to DJ Hero, a hip-hop version of Activision game GuitarHero.

The two rappers shared the stage during the encore ofJay-Z's opening 40 minute set. Ironically, after delivering his popular Linkin Parkmash up "Encore," Jay exited the stage only to return to perform "Renegade."

A friend asked me if I thought this song would be Em's cueto enter the stage, considering Em produced it and is featured on the trackfrom Jay-Z's Blueprint album. Surely Em emerges, sending thecrowd over the top. Seeing the two celebrated MCs together is an otherwise rareevent.

Then the show segued into Eminem's 30 minute segment thatincluded Relapse hits "We Made You,'""3

  • There's no need to front. Billy J loves fun, upbeat hip-hop,rap, whatever you want to call it. No doubt, "You're A Jerk," by the Los Angeles based New Boyz crew featuring members Ben Jand Legacy, is the hottest song on Los Angeles radio.

They remind me of both Digital Underground and Pharcyde. Ifirst heard the song when watching a YouTube clip of Diddy's son Christiandancing. The kid can dance, but the track behind him is what caught myattention.

After hearing the song blow up on KPWR 106 in Los Angeles, I did alittle research to track down the guys. Ironically, they had just been pickedup by Asylum.

My folks at Asylum invited to their half time show at Los Angeles' University High School last month. They were ona tour with KPWR, performing 8-minute half time sets at celebrity basketballgames KPWR hosted with high schools around the city.

I was impressed by how "ready" these young dudes are. Theyhit the court and effortlessly worked the crowd that already knew and lovedtheir song

  • R&B heartthrob Maxwell looks drastically different than he did 8 years ago when he released his last album, the platinum Now.

Since his 1996 debut, Maxwell drew attention both for good looks and for his music, especially from women. He wore hishair in a massive wavy afro. He was frequently photographed shirtless, and if he was wearing a shirt it was unbuttoned.

Now,he looks more conservative. He has a short hair cut. He wears sleek, dinner party attire. He sometimes dons those thick nerd spectacles, andis pictured in promo shots holding an eco-friendly coffee cup.

I wonder if his extreme makeover will disappoint fans who were likely expecting the same slick, ladies man persona.

Gail Mitchell, R&B Editor for Billboard magazine, doesn't think Maxwell's female fans will love him any less.

"Personally,I like the large 'fro ... But he looks just as good with the shorthair," Mitchell says, speaking strictly from a 'female perspective.'"From what I've heard over the last couple of years,
