Brown turned himself in to authorities Wednesday in Van Nuys, Calif., to begin a 55-day sentence. Last month, he plead no contest to driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license, according to E! News.
“He was put on electronic monitoring by the LA Country Probation Department,” Whitmore told Yahoo! Music. “He is hooked to an ankle bracelet.”
The probation department made this decision, Whitmore said, adding that Brown paid for the service. Brown will wear the monitor for 8 days.
The ankle bracelet imposes some limitations on Brown’s mobility. “It usually allows you to stay within the footprint of your home residence,” Whitmore said.
Christopher Brown of Brown & Rosen LLC, Brown's legal counsel, has confirmed his release from jail. "Bobby Brown has been released from the California State House of Corrections," he said in a statement. "Mr. Brown has accepted responsibility for what occurred last October 2012. Mr. Brown is pleased to be home with his wife and young son."
Additionally, Brown, 44, has been placed on summary probation. The first charge yields a 48-month sentence and the second requires 36 months. He must also complete and an 18-month alcohol program.
Brown, Whitney Houston’s ex-husband, was cited on October 24 when he was stopped for driving erratically in traffic in Tarzana, Cali. When he was pulled over, police learned that Brown was operating a vehicle without the dashboard Breathalyzer required by the court.
