Bobby Brown is suing the National Enquirer for reporting that he and Whitney Houston planned to get remarried, the New York Daily news reports.
The “My Prerogative” singer filed the $1 million lawsuit Monday in Manhattan Federal Court, citing the March 26, 2012 article in which the allegations were made. At the time, Brown was engaged to Alicia Etheredge, who he married last June.
Former Brown associate Derrick Handspike was the source for the story. Handspike, who wrote the unauthorized biography “Bobby Brown: The Truth, The Whole Truth and Nothing But,” told the tabloid that the ex New Edition singer confided in him. Handspike is also named as a defendant in the suit.
Last week, Brown was sentenced for pleading no contest to driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license. He spent several hours in jail and when released was assigned an ankle bracelet by the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
Brown and Houston were married for 14 years and divorced in 2007.
