I don't think another rapper has done a better job of stirring up controversy. Lil B has said that he would rape Kanye West if he didn't work with him. He's released an album called "I'm Gay," and now he's put out the track "I Got AIDS." I've been thinking that I liked Lil B much better when he was making fun raps about wearing Vans with his group The Pack.
But after listening to "I Got AIDS" on Hip Hop DX, I am surprised that I've finally come across a Lil B song that I like and would recommend. There is actually some depth to the record that feels like a true account of how someone would react to being diagnosed with the deadly disease.
The song starts off with Lil B calling one of girls he's been sexing to let her know about the bad news he has just received from the doctor.
In his conversational flow, Lil B recounts the actions that got him into this trouble, expressing regret for having unprotected sex and ignorantly trusting the girls he's been dating. In between telling the story of the song's character, he warns listeners to "take it from me, go get checked, that'll be your best bet."
The end of the song plays like a public service announcement, a pretty good one for a guy whose usual random off-beat raps are hard to decipher:
"I want to tell everybody, make sure y'all get tested man. This is not a game. A lot of people have STDs right now and don't even know it. You look perfectly fine, and you feel fine, and it takes a few months, you know, for something to form in your body. But you can have it and be perfectly fine. Make sure you're not transmitting these STDs to other people. I know it hurts. Sometimes you don't even want to know. But you know to protect the world and to be fair to everybody else make sure you get tested and don't trust nobody because a lot of people are lying. A lot of people don't really know. And don't think cause a person looks good that they free because a lot of people that got HIV. Lil B."
