Janet Jackson's voiceon her new song "Nothing" sounds a lot like her late brother, Michael Jackson, who died on June 25. The song is the first single from the soundtrack of hermovie, Why Did I Get Married Too,which opens in theatres this weekend.
Elements of Janet's music have always been reminiscent ofthe King Of Pop, but "Nothing" feels like a sonic tribute.
I don't know if Janet had her iconic sibling in mind whenshe recorded the song, but when she appeared on TheOprah Winfrey Show Friday, she said that she thinks of him often.
"There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think aboutit--that all of us in the family don't think about it--every single day," Janettold Oprah about the passing of the "Thriller" singer.
"Nothing" was produced by Janet's ex-beau Jermaine Dupri andthe lyrical content references issues her WhyDid I Get Married Too character faces with her husband, RollingStone reports.
In the emotional ballad, Janet seeks to put to ease aninsecure mate, conveying sentiments like, "nothing should come easy," "nothingshould come in between us," and "nothing can make me forget, trust in me."
She told Rolling Stonethat she is not working on a new album, though she also recorded the song"Heartbeat Love" with Pitbull.
"There was a time where I was actually in the studio and Iwas recording, but I'm not working on an album," she told Rolling Stone. "There have been a lot of record labels that haveasked me to sit down and talk with them, but I don't know if I want to dosomething completely independent, or go with a major."
Awww. Take your time Janet. No rush. Do what feels right.
The Why Did I GetMarried Too soundtrack will be released on April 20 on Malaco Records.
