Jill Scott Weeps In ‘Hear My Call’ Video

The way the new video for Jill Scott's "Hear MyCall" is shot with its black backdrop, tightly cropped head shot, andJill's passionate emotive vocals and lyrics that beg for God to answer her pleafor help tug on the heart.

God, pick up the phone. Jill Scott is calling.

Jill is a tough woman, so to see her plagued with suchanguish is troubling.

When she sings that she wants to get "back to what shebelieves in" over the sympathetic orchestra music bed, I can't help butthink of Diana Ross as Dorothy in the "The Wiz."

Shoot, the "Why Did I Get Married" actress coulddo "The Wiz" easy for the stage or the big screen.

I was fortunate to catch Jill Scott in concert a few weeksago and as usual she was explosive. Then, the theme was a block party, so shegot her groove on, incorporating hip hop, even performing "La Di DaDi" with concert host Doug E. Fresh.

But before the night was done, Jill had to remind us of thedepth of her talent. When performing one of my favorites, "He Loves Me(Lyzel In E Flat)," she segues into an opera.

Emotion and Jill Scott are consistently synonymous.
