KeKe Palmer: How She Almost Got Passed Up for TLC Movie
KeKe Palmer, 20, has been a fan of TLC since she was 6 or 7 years old, so it's a dream come true that she portrays Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas in the VH1 move CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story.
But she was initially turned down for the role.
When KeKe and her mother learned that a TLC film was in the works, they inquired but received disappointing news.
"We called in and they were like, 'Actually we're not taking known actors,'" KeKe told Yahoo Music during Part 1 of an exclusive three-part video interview. "'We want the girls playing TLC to unknown.'"
KeKe understood the decision but was pleased to later receive a callback to audition.
Also, in Part 1, KeKe discusses bonding with Chilli, including watching Twilight at her house, and getting lessons on TLC dance moves.
In Part 2, KeKe, who also starred in movies Akeelah And The Bee and Joyful Noise, described remaking videos for TLC's "No Scrubs," "Creep" and "Waterfalls," and how the group remained triumphant despite problems with their finances, relationships and health.
In Part 3, KeKe offers updates on her own music career. She's been working with producer Bangladesh and plans to release a music video soon. She also explains why she and her boyfriend really like Drake's "Hold On We're Going Home."
