"I was actually fine, and I was still doing performances, still busy, and still in the studio," Rowland said when she recently stopped bythe Yahoo! Music offices in Santa Monica for a 3-part video interview. "It was great, and the next thing I knew, doors just started opening."

Rowland recorded "When Love Takes Over" with David Guetta, producerfor Black Eyed Peas' "I Gotta Feeling." The song achieved massive success -- aGrammy, and topped dance charts in a half-a-dozen countries.
Not bad for someone who didn't have a record deal at thetime. But Rowland was hardly a novice. For the previous 12 years, from 1997to 2009, she had deals with Columbia Records and Music World Entertainment as both amember of Destiny's Child and a solo artist. She welcomed the break.
While working with Guetta, she caught theattention of Motown Universal head Sylvia Rhone, who happened to be in thestudio one night Rowland was recording her current single "Commander."

"She passed by my session and heard it and was like, 'Oh,you're on some new stuff,'" Rowland said, quoting Rhone."She was excited with me."
While the dance songs are taking Rowland's career in newdirections, she wants her urban fans to know that she has not abandoned them.
"Dance inspired this record completely, but I willdefinitely say that I did not forget about my urban roots nor could I ever,"Rowland said. "That is one of the reasons why I am here. And I think that formy fans that have followed me since that sound, I can not let them go. I wouldnot do that to them."
Rowland has something special for her longtime soul music supporters-aNe-Yo-penned record called "Grown Ass Woman." She calls it her favorite song onthe new album.
(WATCH Kelly recall her Star Search performance, 50 Cent video feature, and working with Nelly on new song.)
"Ne-Yo asked me what I wanted to talk about," she said. "Isaid, 'I'm in a different space. Change is very comfortable for me, and I'mhappy where I am.' He said, 'Alright. He wrote 3 smashes and sent them back tome and one of them is 'Grown Ass Woman.'"
Rowland's still untitled album is slated for a fall release.
