Time: 10 p.m.
The legendary frontman of A Tribe Called Quest will paytribute to Michael at this event also featuring Grammy award-winningproducer/artist Mark Ronson, and DJ Spinna.
"Michael Jackson was a huge influence on my music and was aninspiration to me and so many others," Q-Tip said in a statement. "I want tobring people together to celebrate the man, his music and his legacy that willun doubtedly live on forever!"
Q-Tip also honored Michael the weekend he died in June. TheGrammy award-winning rap star dedicated his weekly "Open" party at Santos PartyHouse to Michael.
Sean "Diddy" Combs recently told MTV that Q-Tip is thepremiere party DJ. "The hottest DJ in the game right now is Q-Tip," Diddy said."That right there is a DJ playing, taking you on a mind-traveling experience."
Event: Michael Jackson Birthday Block Party
Host: Spike Lee & The GreatBorough of Brooklyn, The Source
Venue: Prospect Park,Nethermead Meadow
City: Brooklyn, NY
Time: noon - 5 p.m.
Spike Lee, who collaborated withMichael Jackson on the video for the song "They Don't Care About Us," wanted tohost a special Brooklyn style bash forMichael.
The Reverend Al Sharpton willoffer the prayer. DJ Spinna will provide the music.
The celebration will include aspecial proclamation by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who willdeclare August 29 "Michael JacksonDay."TheRoot, Spike Lee said he wanted to celebrate Michael's life in a "Brooklyn style block party." "It's going to just be howwe do it, Brooklyn style. I'll leave it at that," Spike said. "It's going to bea joyous, festive, celebratory party."
The party will end with the crowdsinging happy birthday to Michael. "We're going to make sure he hears us too,"Spike said.
Event: Las Vegas Celebrates the Music of MichaelJackson
Host: Erich Bergen, Steve Friess
Venue: The Pearl Concert Theaterin the Palms
City: Las Vegas, NV
Time: 3 p.m.
"This is a way of saying thank youto Michael's contribution to the arts," Bergen,told ReviewJournal.com."If we can concentrate for at least two hours on the art that he did, I thinkwe'll be better off."
The production will benefit thePublic Education Foundation and will supply instruments, maintenance ofinstruments, sheet music, supplies and specialized tutoring, Friess told the LasVegas Sun.
According to ReviewJournal.com, VincentPaterson, who directed the video for "Smooth Criminal" and "played the white gangsterin the 'Beat It' video" is expected to attend the show, ReviewJournal.comreports.
Event: BET Celebrates MichaelJackson
The Black EntertainmentTelevision network has produced several documentary pieces on MichaelJackson that will run throughout the weekend of his 51st birthday.
Michael Jackson: Life of aSuperstar

The one-hour special includesinterviews with Brooke Shields, Janet Jackson, Liz Taylor, Quincy Jones, andJermaine Jackson. It chronicles his career as a young performer both as amember of The Jackson 5 and as a solo artist.
Airing: August 29, 7 p.m., August30, 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.
This two-hour documentaryshowcases rare footage from a 1980s interview that has not been seen for 25years. The segment includes interviews with Jermaine Jackson, Latoya Jacksonand Quincy Jones, and thoughts from Nelson Mandela and the late Princess Diana.

Venue: Trafalgar Square
This event was originally promotedas an attempt to set a new record for the most people doing the Thriller dancesimultaneously. It has since changed to simply a celebration.Thrill The World extravaganzacoordinates a global Thriller dance in October. This years' event will be heldon Saturday, October 24, the weekend prior to Halloween. Last year, thefestivities drew participation from 4,179 people at 72 events in 71 cities.
