Shanice’s Daughter’s Girl Group Amazes With A Capella Adele Covers

Nineties pop singer Shanice is getting into the girl group business. On Sunday, she tweeted a link to a new tween female quartet, the Gurlie Gurlz, covering Adele's "Set Fire To The Rain" and "Rolling In The Deep."

The group includes Imani, Shanice's daughter with husband Flex Alexander; her cousin, Kennedy; and friends, twins, Shelbi and Sydney. All of the girls are 10 and are from Santa Clarita and Riverside, California.

Flex, Shanice and two of their children at La Toya Jackson book singing last June.While the girls are adorable, they are equally talented vocalists. They have already been compared to Beyoncé's former group. "This is the new Destiny's Child for real:)," ntokoo85 wrote on their YouTube page.

Because each of the girls sings lead on the a capella Adele covers, it would be a good idea to position them more like En Vogue. En Vogue, known for 1990's hits "Hold On" and "Free Your Mind," regularly alternated song leads.

Shanice's mother Crystal Wilson decided to assemble the group after working as the vocal coach for Shelbi and Sydney. "She said, 'I'm thinking about putting together a group and would really love for the girls to be a part of it. My granddaughter has a great voice, and my cousin Kennedy has a great voice as well,'" Shelbi and Sydney's mother told Yahoo! Music.

The Gurlie Gurlz are working on a cover of Shanice's 1991 hit "I Love Your Smile" that reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart as well as an original song called "Perfect" that will encourage girls to be confident and happy in their own skin.

They have already received some record label interest and are exploring various branding opportunities.

Robi Reed-Humes, casting director for films including "Antwone Fisher" and "For Colored Girls," complimented the girls via Twitter after seeing Shanice's tweet. "[T]he group is adorable and they can sing too :) would love to meet them," she wrote.

Shanice began her career in entertainment as a child, appearing on "Star Search" and "Kids Incorporated." She released six albums.
