T-Boz said she and late TLC member Left Eye made amends before she was killed in a 2002 car accident in Honduras.
T-Boz, who recently debuted her TLC network reality show Totally T-Boz, said was upset with Left Eye because the fiery rapper was neglecting some of her responsibilities in the group.
T-Boz said she and Left Eye resolved their differences when T-Boz was hospitalized for four months due to complications from Sickle Cell Anemia. Left Eye came to see her in the hospital before she made her fateful trip to Honduras.
T-Boz“We were mad at each other,” T-Boz told Hip Hop Media Training in an exclusive interview. “It was weird, over something crazy. That’s when she was with Suge [Knight] and she wasn’t showing up to the studio, and I was all, ‘You better come!’ And she was basically like, ‘Take all the time you need. I’m sorry,’ and everything was good. It’s just like sisters. It wasn’t no real knockdown, drag out fight. … Basically she was like saying, ‘Take all the time you need. I’m going on a retreat.’ And she just never came back.”
On Totally T-Boz, the singer documents her efforts to embark on a solo career as well as another album with TLC member Chilli. T-Boz dismissed reports that the group would use a Left Eye replacement for an upcoming tour.
“I’m never going to put another girl in my group. Never!” T-Boz said. She said they considered using a hologram version of Left Eye for touring but decided against it.
“We toyed with the idea of using a hologram years ago before Tupac did Coachella,” she said. “But when I saw Tupac come off the floor I was like, ‘Oh,’” she said as she wiped her eyes. “I had tears in my eyes. I felt some kind of way, and he’s not in their group like that. That’s their homie, love and all, but her in songs and looking at her, I don’t know if I could do that. We’re just now, 10 years later, just able to look back at the screen, like last summer.”
Before teaming up with the TLC network for Totally T-Boz, the recording artist said she turned down other reality show offers. “The interesting thing about the TLC network is that they were interested in following me, not leading me,” she said. “If it has something of substance and a platform that makes sense, I can share my story. You can get a little more into my life, and I can mesh my singing with things I love to do, and writing for others, and telling my story in hopes of helping someone. I’m all for it.”
