Disney Actress And Singer Bridgit Mendler Inspired By Bob Dylan And The Fugees

Bridgit Mendler is on course to become just as popular a singer as she is an actress. The co-star of Disney's hit sitcom, "Good Luck Charlie," recently released her solo album, "Hello My Name Is."

Though Mendler has displayed her vocal chops on "Good Luck Charlie" and Disney special "Lemonade Mouth," the sound of her album takes listeners on yet another path. Mendler said she intentionally sought out a style that would distinguish her from her television persona.

Though Mendler is only 19, she turns 20 on Tuesday, her influences include the likes of Bob Dylan, The Fugees and even Lily Allen. Mendler even admits that her debut single "Ready Or Not" is inspired by The Fugees's hit of the same name.

See Mendler's exclusive Yahoo! Music interview to learn more about her music interest and even catch her provide an impromptu a capella rendition of Salt N Pepa's early 1990s hit "Shoop."

And yes, Mendler did perform new songs in the Yahoo! studios. Check out her stripped-down, live versions of "Ready Or Not," "Hurricane" and "5:15."

She is indeed one new artist on the rise.
