The universally lauded singer received an MBE from Prince Charles this week while decked out in a palace-worthy look that included lovely royal blue (we see what you did there!) Stella McCartney dress, a jaunty veiled headband and OMG THOSE MATCHING TINY CROWN NAILS. Someone send those over to Lorde, please?
An MBE is sort of like a freshman level of royal honors that is open to civilians, but aren't quite a knighthood. Every year an extensive list of mostly civic, academic and military honorees are chosen. Other musical recipients of royal honors below a knighthood include all four Beatles in the '60s (although Sir Paul McCartney was the only one to get a proper knighthood decades later), Annie Lennox, The Bee Gees, Roger Daltry, Bono, Sting and Eric Capton among many others. Those who received "Sir" or "Dame" titles have been Sir Elton John, Sir Mick Jagger, Dame Shirley Bassey (singer of the iconic James Bond themes 'Diamonds Are Forever' and 'Goldfinger') and uh, Sir Tom Jones, seriously.
David Bowie was allegedly offered a knighthood, but being the cool cat he is, turned it down. Others who have allegedly turned down a royal distinction have been author Aldous Huxley and artist David Hockney.
Anyways, Adele got yet another award (yawn), but those Most Excellent nails are rolling in the deep!
